I Own a Paper Effigy Shop

After inheriting her elders' incense and candle shop, Xie Baoping only wanted to make a modest living and support her family.

Who would have thought that the little shop, tucked away in a remote spot, would do such astonishing business? Its customers just happened to make all sorts of strange requests.

It wasn't until she found her elders' handwritten notes that she understood. One line, scrawled across the page, read:

"Right the wrongs of the dead, ease the regrets of the living, destroy evil spirits in every direction, and bring peace to both the yin and yang worlds."

And so...

She helped a runaway little ghost deliver a letter home to its parents;

She tracked down the culprit behind a young woman's suicide after she had been lured into a trap;

She followed the guidance of a soul that had died unjustly to stop a serial killer's next attack;

And when a water ghost handed her a rusted copper coin, she was asked to investigate the killer's reincarnation, and the reincarnation after that, and the one after that...

From then on, she sold incense, candles, and paper offerings by day, and did business with the underworld after dark. Before long, her unremarkable little shop had become a place of peace between the worlds of the living and the dead.
