Wen Shining ran away the day after Zhou Yanqing got drunk and said something he shouldn't have.
She was gone for three whole years. Even after returning home years later, she was still afraid when she saw Zhou Yanqing for the first time.
The man stood before her in a suit, looking down at her. He had been waiting.
"You're back. Are you leaving again?"
She feared his gaze and only shook her head slightly. "I'm not leaving."
Zhou Yanqing acted as if nothing had happened, as though she'd imagined those words he'd let slip years ago.
Wen Shining moved back into the Zhou residence. It was the familiar place, and nothing had changed, yet somehow everything had.
He told her not to dwell on the past. He'd forgotten all about it.
Wen Shining believed him.
*
Wen Shining had a secret in her heart: she loved Zhou Yanqing. Nobody knew, and nobody could ever find out.
The Zhou family had raised her, taught her, and made her who she was.
She couldn't become the villain who brought shame on the entire Zhou family just because of a little greed. But she couldn't control herself. All she could do was hide like a thief in the shadows, greedily hoping for a little kindness from him.
She longed for him, yearned for him, wanted him, and selfishly wished to keep him all to herself.
But his drunken words, spoken against his will, threw her into a panic and made her lose her composure. He was clearly drunk, yet his deep, dark voice carried a teasing laugh.
"Shining, you love me."
The secret she'd kept deep in her heart was exposed in an instant. Her selfish feelings lay completely bare before him. Shame left her nowhere to hide, and she couldn't bear to stay at the Zhou residence.
*
Wen Shining had always been the most dazzling one. She'd never lacked admirers, yet she never gave them a second thought.
But her bloodshot eyes couldn't lie. Zhou Yanqing hadn't forgotten.
He'd raised her, yet she was always thinking of how to escape him.
"You don't need me?"
Wen Shining didn't dare answer. His long fingers were still moving downward. He felt her trembling and made her raise her eyes to him. "Wen Shining, when will you learn to be completely honest with me?"
*
She wanted him and selfishly wished to possess him.
The man's eyes were dark. Beneath the wet, sticky sounds, the young woman arched her neck. He wanted her to say aloud that she loved him.
Wen Shining trembled and sobbed.
Zhou Yanqing kissed her.
"Shining, without those three years, you would've been mine a long time ago."
