Wen Jianyu is beautiful, sensitive and perceptive, with a vivid imagination. Her friends all say she was born to be a novelist, but she is the only one who doesn't think so. After graduating from college, she takes a job at a magazine related to her major. After working diligently there for three years, just as she is finally about to become a permanent employee...
Her parents suddenly insist that she come home to meet a marriage prospect. Her grandmother is gravely ill, and to let her see Wen Jianyu settled down, Wen Jianyu marries Gu Mingzhao after meeting him only three times.
They first meet at a beauty salon. Wen Jianyu's friend drags her there for a treatment, and she catches a little boy calling the salon's owner, Gu Mingzhao, a self-made tycoon, "Dad."
They meet for the second time at a matchmaking event. Gu Mingzhao says he's single, and Wen Jianyu angrily calls him out. "Don't you already have a son? Why are you saying you're single? What about the boy's mother and the child?"
Gu Mingzhao calmly looks at the young woman in front of him, who is making a fuss on behalf of his sister's child. The corners of his mouth lift as he chuckles. "He's my sister's child."
They meet for the third time at a kindergarten. In the end, Wen Jianyu can't resist her parents' wishes and quits her magazine job, taking a position at a kindergarten as they arranged.
On her first day, she runs into a tricky situation: Gu Mingzhao's sister's child says she's his little aunt by marriage and clings to her no matter what she does.
Gu Mingzhao says, "I heard you want to find a boyfriend and build a family. I've been thinking about that lately, too. Maybe I could be the one."
Wen Jianyu asks, "Why me?"
Gu Mingzhao simply says, "He likes you a lot."
Wen Jianyu thinks Gu Mingzhao means the little boy wrapped around her leg, and doesn't notice that Gu Mingzhao's eyes never leave her as he says it.

One day after their wedding, Wen Jianyu learns from Gu Mingzhao's sister that he wrote a novel while he was in school. "They say he wrote it because of a girl, to encourage her to write novels. He wanted to encourage her not to live in the past, but to look forward to tomorrow."
Those words appeared without a name in her yearbook when she graduated from high school: [Xiao Yu, don't live in the past. Look forward to tomorrow.]
It was those words that helped her endure that difficult time.
When she gets home, Wen Jianyu finds the novel about a boy's unrequited love coming true: A Forecast of Rain.
She opens the comments section, where every comment is skeptical. Some say the author must be a delusional man, and that a heroine as outstanding as the one in the book could never fall for a poor boy.
The comments are in an uproar. The author replies to only one comment insulting the heroine: "Please don't insult or slander my wife. She's wonderful, and I'm the one who married up. My lawyer will be in touch."
The reply is dated the day she and Gu Mingzhao got married.
In a daze, Wen Jianyu doesn't even realize she's crying. Just as she gets up to find him, Gu Mingzhao appears in the bedroom and hugs her from behind. He strokes her head and soothes her in a gentle voice. "How strange. My Forecast of Rain was pretty accurate. It's really raining in my world."
