[The King's Avatar] The Summer Breeze Came Too Late

This was the second time I went to pick Wang Jiexi up after work.

He was standing at the gates of Team Tiny Herb, idly playing on his phone, looking completely relaxed. The moment he saw me, his expression turned decidedly unfriendly.

I patted the back seat of my electric scooter, signaling him to hop on.

Wang Jiexi objected. "Why didn't you tell me it was an electric scooter?"

"I did! I said I'd switch to the electric bike because of the license plate restrictions. You said it was fine and told me to be careful. See?" I thought he'd gotten the message, so I'd even brought an extra helmet.

He laughed in exasperation. "That's an electric scooter! I thought you meant an electric car."

Come on, what a fuss. I handed him the helmet, leaving it up to him whether he wanted to get on.

Wang Jiexi swung his long legs over and climbed on anyway. I'd miscalculated. I hadn't expected him to be so big. With his chest pressed against my back, there was barely any room for me to sit.

He still wasn't satisfied. His voice was cool, but tinged with reproach. "Looks like once you got me, you stopped caring. My treatment's gone downhill so fast."

"Hey, hey," I warned him to watch what he said. "Your teammates are hiding inside, peeking at us."

Captain Wang immediately fell silent, lowered his visor, wrapped both arms around my waist, and urged me on. "Go."

I twisted the throttle and zipped off with him toward the sunset, putt-putting all the way.

I've written too many older-man romances, so now I'm switching things up and writing a younger Wang Jiexi. One-on-one, childhood friends, happy ending, everyday slice-of-life with lots of banter.
