The church welcomed a new Saint.
The Saint was compassionate and volunteered to serve as a knight, dealing with threats to the royal capital.
The church congregation: Great!
The Saint uprooted the hidden evil forces within the capital and found the lair of the Gluttony demon, one of the Seven Deadly Sins, where she had a satisfying face-to-face showdown with Gluttony.
The church congregation: ...Great.
Following the clues, the Saint found the other demons and went to their door to offer a considerate pest-clearing service, earning great merit for the kingdom. She discovered a secret cult that had been hidden in the capital for centuries, provoking the cult into a counterattack that nearly destroyed the kingdom. She got into a huge fight with an unknown enemy while negotiating with another country. The palace was destroyed, its treasures burned, and the king demanded full compensation. During a battle, the Saint accidentally wrecked the church's printing factory, leaving the new believers with no books to read.
The church congregation: Oh, Mary! Is this Saint a little too energetic?
Fortunately, the Saint was good at heart and just had bad luck. Although the royal capital faced several major crises within a year of her appointment, crises it had never encountered before, and although the Saint fought on such a grand scale that she often destroyed half the capital, and although...
All in all, she was a good Saint.
Noel bought a game from a pop-up ad.
The game came from an unofficial source and hadn't even been approved for a license, but it had loads of features. Through sheer perseverance, Noel used an auto-clicker to roll her stat screen a thousand times. The AI narrator couldn't take it anymore and gave Noel maxed-out hidden affinity stats. She also got the status of a young noblewoman from the start, making for a perfect opening.
Since her affinity applied to all living things, she experienced the game's top-tier effect, a halo of holy light, right after she was born.
Noel: All I can say is, it's bright.
Everyone watching was shocked: the marquis's family had produced a born saint! Once this first impression was set, the player received the game's top title, [Light That Blesses the World]. But the title would disappear over time. To keep it permanently, she had to lock it in, and also choose two permanent negative buffs.
Noel looked through the options and finally chose two negative effects that seemed more like rewards to her.
[Shadow's Reach: Characters aligned with chaos or possessing evil traits will be drawn to you.]
[Misfortune Aura: You are always at the center of events, surrounded by crises, great or small.]
Two negative buffs that could make the game more interesting? Anyone who said the game was bad would have to answer to her.
Locking in the [Light That Blesses the World] title affected the game. She couldn't commit acts that were too bloody, violent, or immoral, but a player accustomed to freedom certainly wouldn't just submit.
So she made an alternate account and played a necromancer who dug up people's ancestral graves.
Please read the following and decide for yourself whether to avoid this story:
1. The protagonist has a true player's mindset and plays the game with an omniscient perspective.
2. The religion is fictional, so please don't get hung up on whether it's realistic.
3. Unless otherwise specified, characters are female. There may be male cannon fodder who die.
Theme: You have the right to choose the life you want.
