My Casual Eatery Connects to Ancient Times

Zhou Min inherited a small diner from her family, one that was on the verge of closing. To her surprise, the old door inside turned out to be magical: every three months, it would open onto a different dynasty.

And so her days became a routine of guarding the little shop for half the day, closing it promptly in the afternoon, and transmigrating through the past and present at night.

Selling cake and milk tea in the back alleys of the Republican era

Boiling tea eggs and making soy milk outside a medieval city gate

Setting up a shaved-ice and cold-noodle stall beside the West Market in a city that never sleeps

Cooking Chinese food on the streets of Edo

Grilling skewers on the banks of the Nile

Selling coconut-milk desserts at a port in the South Seas

Quietly cashing in gold and silver, ancient coins, and old collectibles, making life more and more secure.

Through the countless sights and sounds of bygone eras and the present, she travels the world through the door.

By day, she runs her little modern shop at an easygoing pace. By night, she transmigrates through the past and present, quietly making money.

Then she turns around and finds someone waiting beneath the lamplight for her to come safely home each day.
