Synopsis
Xi Yu was born into a new world and unexpectedly became a little genius with extraordinary talent, her mental strength far surpassing that of the natives.
Her adoptive father carefully planned her future and asked which of the four mecha professions she liked best.
Xi Yu thought it over seriously.
The command seat? Tsk, the theory is too abstract and takes too much brainpower. I can't learn that.
Assault trooper? Wow, the mental-strength requirement is so low. They shout about defending the Alliance to the death and charge right in. A bunch of reckless idiots.
Medic? Hey, telling people to study medicine is asking to be struck by lightning.
Mecha engineer is still the best.
The mecha engineer curriculum is complete, the lessons are packed with useful knowledge, and the hands-on work is relatively easy to put into practice. It's a support role, so there's less risk of dying.
Perfect, perfect. I'll become a mecha engineer!
-
Man proposes, but heaven disposes.
One day, her mental strength goes berserk, and the little genius becomes a little good-for-nothing.
After realizing she'd been set up, Xi Yu decides she needs to protect herself.
With her brain severely damaged, Xi Yu looks at the four professions again while recuperating.
Command seat? Takes brains.
Mecha engineer? Takes brains.
Medic? Takes brains.
Assault trooper? Reckless idiots! Where are their brains?
Excellent! Xi Yu makes up her mind. She'll be a reckless idiot!
-
After her mental strength is damaged, Xi Yu keeps a low profile and does her work in silence, hoping to be an invisible outsider while the chosen ones beat each other up... Today she sabotages her own leader, tomorrow she flirts with the opposing team's boss, and the day after she blows up an ally's mecha... So who was it that said, "Friendship first, competition second"?
At last, halfway through the tournament, she stands in a special arena equipped with a mental-strength shielding device. Xi Yu grins, hoists a giant blade in one hand, and surveys the crowd.
What do you mean, you don't know? I'm just a reckless idiot who only knows how to fight. I don't have a brain, so sorry if I accidentally hurt anyone! And which one of you was gossiping about me being a good-for-nothing with low mental strength? Let's settle it one-on-one.

They say the Alliance commander's son is exceptionally gifted. Thanks to his striking looks and hair color, he's known as the "Dawn of the Alliance." People always describe him as gentle yet distant, well-mannered, emotionally stable, and never at odds with anyone.
Xi Yu hears this as she passes by. Xi Yu doesn't believe it.
She boasts, "Last time I turned down his confession, he was so angry he didn't talk to me for two months."
Bystander: Sure, sure. Keep telling yourself that.
Later, in the illusion of a tournament arena...
The scene of the confession Xi Yu mentioned plays out again.
The young man earnestly and sincerely tells her he loves her. The girl crushes a beer can in her hand and slurs, "No way! Men only get in the way of me drawing my blade!"
The young man continues, "I'm very strong. I'm the Alliance's first double-S-rank commander."
The girl sways for a long moment, then holds his face and examines it closely before beaming. "Then you're amazing!"
She leans in and plants a big kiss on him.
Blushing, the young man asks softly, "So can we be together now?"
Held tightly in his arms, Xi Yu feels the soft winter clothes warming them both. Smelling his warm, faint fragrance mixed with the alcohol, she squints in a daze and asks, "Who are you? I already like someone. Handsome, your hair is black. You're not him. His hair is white, like a dandelion."
Their watching friends, rivals, and sworn enemies are left astounded.
One of the people involved, sporting newly dyed fluffy white hair, gazes at her with a faintly reproachful look.
Xi Yu guiltily rubs her nose, secretly studying his profile. His beautiful eyes are just like they were when they were children, and so is his hair, which sticks up at the slightest breeze.
Over the years, the young man has changed his hair color again and again, but Xi Yu still thinks this one is the cutest.
It was the first time she ever saw him.

The Alliance First Division League is a major mecha tournament jointly held by seven universities in the central star system. Many exceptionally talented young people have emerged from its ever-shifting battlefield over the years.
To the people of the Alliance, these outstanding young people are the future.
To the tournament organizers, they're a walking disaster. The First Division League is really just a once-every-four-years festival of monsters.
They are all young, born into different families and choosing different professions. Their backgrounds naturally place them in different factions. Drawn together by glory and a desire to win, they are also proud and stubborn, refusing to lose or accept their lot.
The young beasts face off against one another, yet admire one another too. Neither the turbulent political climate of the Alliance nor the illusions quietly brewing in the shadows can sway them.
Victory is something you win for yourself. Friends are the people you choose.
When there's no common enemy, they bite each other.
When there is a common enemy, they still bite each other, but make sure to kick the enemy a couple of times too.
