Short version: An unlucky guy who was barely alive despite being dead gets dragged back to save the world.
Long version:
Duanmu Xi, a "normal" human who's a little unusual but not that unusual, had been peacefully dead. Then he opened his eyes again... and was alive.
Not only was he alive, but he was also saddled with a self-proclaimed "servant," a being that might be a System but didn't seem human. Thanks to the last traces of his childish curiosity (?), he had no choice but to climb aboard this pirate ship and begin a legendary new life saving the world XD.
He'd expected things to be bad, but this world's state of disrepair far exceeded his imagination.
Duanmu Xi: Kids, this isn't funny.
Of course, someone with his scrawny little arms and legs wouldn't stand a chance on his own. In a world crawling with monsters and spirits, he'd be lucky to survive. So the kind "System" made him several secret identities:
A carefree bard, as free as the wind, who comes and goes without a trace; a mysterious, sharp-tongued, arrogant astrologer; a nonhuman night watchman, quiet as falling snow and keeping company with the dead; a sun-bright Light Chaser, gentle and compassionate toward all things; a spirit of spring, stubborn about promises and named for the season...
And "him."
Stories always begin beautifully, but as for the ending... well, if the suffering ends, the world is at peace, and everyone is happy... then that's enough, isn't it?
On the last moment before the silence, "he" thought so.
A note before reading:
This is not your typical "System" story. Don't be fooled by the blurb into thinking it's the real deal; at its core, it's still a comedy. It's fairly long, with plenty of everyday-life buildup along the way. It has lots of references and some shameless personal favorites mixed in (just kidding), and leans toward an ensemble cast with a touch of readers imagining the characters as more extraordinary than they are.
I'm happy to hear any friendly suggestions or discuss the story, but the author refuses to change a thing (because I finished writing the whole thing before posting it, haha. Major revisions would be deadly). So then, thank you for reading!
Theme: I only wish for peace and prosperity.
