Legend tells of a cicada that lies dormant underground, in the darkness, for eighteen whole years, then dies soon after singing through one summer.
Ning Zhixia, a top-tier star, was born into poverty and had no connections. But at eighteen, she became a sensation on a televised talent show thanks to her immense popularity. After that, every movie, TV show, and song she released was a hit. She became a symbol of an era and a cherished memory for a generation.
Yet just a year and a half later, her condition deteriorated rapidly. She drank heavily, stayed up late, binged, and fell ill... Three years later, after nearly fading from the entertainment industry, she died suddenly one morning.
It had been barely two years since she set a new record for album sales by a female singer in the modern era.
Zhou He had been obsessed with Ning Zhixia since childhood. From a young age, he watched all her work over and over without ever tiring of it. His love and regret were so intense that, twenty years after her death, he used AI simulation technology to enter the virtual world she had lived in.
He knew how badly she wanted to succeed, how much she loved the stage.
What could have made her leave this world so decisively after she'd gotten everything she wanted?
