Yu Liuyi, young mistress of Xuandu, confesses her feelings to her senior brother and is rejected.
The next day, her senior brother gets engaged and marries someone else, avoiding her as if she were a venomous snake. Yu Liuyi's identity as a fake heiress is exposed, and the Yu family of Xuandu throws her out. Exiled to the far north, she becomes the lowliest death-row prisoner in the world.
Unwilling to accept this fate, on the verge of death she uses all the magic power she has accumulated in her life to summon the Heavenly Book and beg for a chance to start over.
The Heavenly Book tells Yu Liuyi that this is a male-oriented world centered on a domineering true young master. As a stumbling block on the fated child's path to reclaiming his place, she has occupied the true young master's identity for many years. She is utterly unworthy of her position and guilty of the gravest crimes.
The Heavenly Book says that if she wants to live, she must find the true young master of the Yu family, who was lost among ordinary people, serve him faithfully, and help him fulfill his great mission of saving the world.
Yu Liuyi agrees.
When she opens her eyes again, she is back on her fifteenth birthday. On the city wall, surrounded by flowers and the adoring crowd, her handsome senior brother stands before her and smiles, saying that he will love her forever.
Yu Liuyi looks away from him.
In a dark corner untouched by the fireworks, a few miserable beggars huddle together, filthy and disheveled.
The Heavenly Book points to the most wretched one and says, "See that true young master? He is the one truly favored by fate. Go on, be sincere and treat him well."
So Yu Liuyi pushes through the crowd and walks into the deep darkness, right before everyone's eyes.
She takes the young beggar's hand, intending to follow fate. But when she opens her eyes again, she is trapped in a cage, just as she was in her previous life.
The depths of the dungeon are pitch-black. Yu Liuyi stands amid blood and filth, dazed.
The Heavenly Book, which she once regarded as her lifeline, lies at her feet, reduced to ashes. The Yu family member guarding her hangs suspended in the air, tortured in a hideously cruel way. On his bare back, someone has carved a bloody, mangled word with a sharp weapon: Escape.
A familiar voice comes from beside her. Her senior brother rushes toward her and grips her sleeve tightly, urging her, "He's dying. The Yu family won't spare you. Go!"
Yu Liuyi doesn't remember what happened here, but from that day on, she begins to dream frequently of a blood-red eye.
In her dreams, the eye is like a phantom, hanging high in the sky as it slowly devours Xuandu and obliterates the human world.
"They're coming, they're coming! Find that blade. It's the only thing that can turn the tide..."
Somewhere deep inside, Yu Liuyi hears her own voice, as if speaking in a trance: "What if I can't find it?"
As soon as the words leave her mouth, blood gushes from the depths of the eye, pouring down like a great river and swallowing her whole.
The gurgling water brings the low murmurs of vengeful ghosts. It is as if invisible hands are closing around her throat, dragging her down into the depths of the river of blood.
There, countless voices giggle. "It's all right. If you can't find it, we'll wait for you here..."

Everyone gets only one life. No one is an exception. If you receive what you were never meant to have, you are destined to shoulder burdens ordinary people could never bear.
Escape. Outside, there are winding mountains and rivers, damp valleys, galloping steeds, and grasslands stretching beyond the horizon. There is mist rising above the great river, the setting sun hanging low at the edge of the desert, and an unknown, mad fate. That fate hangs on the edge of a blade, enough to split your life in two, leaving everything afterward sharply divided from what came before.
