Criminal Profiler × Forensic Examiner
Three o'clock in the morning, crime scene. The spotlight is as pale as an operating table.
The new forensic doctor squatted beside the body and traced the edges of the wound with his fingertips. She was reading a broken sonnet—deducing hesitation from angles and restoring temperature from fibers. Every detail is punctuation, and she wants to re-sequence the chaotic death.
At the other end of the corridor, someone stepped into the police cordon without wearing shoe covers. The criminal portraitist stood in the center of the room, eyes closed, as if smelling the lingering scent of fear. Three minutes later, she began describing the killer's breakfast habits and childhood trauma.
They looked at each other for the first time next to the corpse.
One believes in the truth under the microscope. A ghost who trusts his intuition.
The police captain rubbed his hands and came over: "The case has been merged. It said... You two have to investigate together."
The man in the white coat didn't look up. The man in the trench coat tugged at the corner of his mouth, took out the cigarette and stuffed it back.
They each packed their toolboxes, and the sound of metal clashing was particularly clear in the early morning. The moment the zipper of the body bag was zipped up, the man in the trench coat suddenly said:
"His hands were shaking when he killed the first person."
The man in the white coat paused for a moment: "I can see it. There is an old injury on the left thumb, and the angle of holding the knife is seven degrees off."
The police car's overhead lights were still on. Red and blue light alternately flashed across their faces.
They walked to their respective cars, and the car doors rang almost simultaneously. Two beams of headlights cut through the darkness, heading in different directions—different directions for the time being.
