Xu Xi moved to a remote suburb. Her neighbor was a kind young girl who helped her carry her things, showed her around the neighborhood, and invited her over the very first time they met.

The girl had a pitiful life. Her mother died when she was young, she had never gone to school, and she was insecure and sensitive. Xu Xi felt terrible for her and brought Xu Shutong into her home, teaching her to read and write.
