After living a second life, Yu Chi discovered that the world he lived in was a nonsensical third-rate novel. One protagonist was an insignificant illegitimate son of the Su family, and the other was his sworn enemy, with whom he was locked in a life-or-death rivalry. Yu Chi himself was the vicious antagonist, arrogant, ill-natured, and selfish. His only purpose in the story was to trip up the protagonists and serve as a disposable pawn who helped their relationship develop.
"I'll give you another chance at life, along with wealth and the world's most precious treasures," said the thing that had inexplicably appeared in his mind. "In return, you must find the right way to maintain the world's stability."
"But I've already got all that..." Yu Chi slowly rose to his feet.
Watching him clutch the knife in his hand and head straight for someone nearby, the System asked in confusion, "What are you doing?"
Yu Chi smiled ominously. "Peeling fruit!"
As the heir of the Yu family, one of Kyoto's three great families, Yu Chi had been pampered from childhood. Wealth and power came easily, and flattery was nothing out of the ordinary. He got whatever he wanted. Yet, somehow, Shen Yubai had never once done what he wanted.
In the eyes of the second-generation rich, Shen Yubai was an unattainable presence. To the elders, he was the perfect heir; to his peers, a model to follow. In business, he was capable, measured, and shrewd.
They were exactly the kind of people the other couldn't stand: one reckless and carefree, the other aloof and exceptional.
Yu Chi thought they would hate each other for the rest of their lives. Then, in a dark, oppressive room, the calm and self-possessed man locked him inside and held him in his arms. Yu Chi suddenly realized it had taken him nearly fifty years across two lifetimes to see Shen Yubai for who he really was.
