Jiang Xiaoyue, a workplace professional, is framed and accidentally falls into Flame Village, a place from which no one ever returns.
According to legend, the village once offended the mighty Fire Dragon and was cursed. The dragon transformed into a mountain of flames and encircled the village, leaving it barren and subjecting the villagers to scorching heat.
For the past thirty years, the villagers of Flame Mountain Village have been able to cool themselves and survive only thanks to the Mu family's uniquely cold blood.
The villagers drained the blood of one Mu family member after another, until only Mu Jingheng remained, the last source of blood to keep them alive.
To ensure a steady supply of blood, the villagers force Jiang Xiaoyue to marry Mu Jingheng. They hope the two will have several children with the same uniquely cold blood, who can continue to donate blood and cool the villagers.
Jiang Xiaoyue refuses to remain trapped in Flame Village, and she especially refuses to let her descendants become puppets forced to give blood to the villagers.
She decides to join forces with Mu Jingheng and find a way to break the curse.
On the day the curse is broken, a flood engulfs the entire village, leaving only a handful of its people alive.
Only then does Jiang Xiaoyue realize that the man before her, who seems refined and scholarly, yet frail and sickly, has been manipulating the entire game all along.
She was the sharpest piece on his board. He had known from the beginning that once the curse was broken, a flood would surely swallow the village.
Yet he shamelessly deceived Jiang Xiaoyue into trusting him and enlisted her help to find a way out.
Jiang Xiaoyue hates Mu Jingheng and believes that the two of them will never cross paths again.
But when Jiang Xiaoyue hits one career setback after another and is left with nowhere to turn, it is this very man who cherishes her above all else. Ignoring everyone's judgmental stares, he carefully gathers her into his arms. "I defeated an entire village to escape becoming a blood-donating puppet to the flames, but in front of you, I lost completely."
Mu Jingheng lovingly and tenderly runs a fingertip over the tip of her nose and says solemnly, "Don't worry. As long as I'm here, no one can hurt you, not even a little."
