If I don't have horns on my head, does that really mean I can't become the Dragon Lord of the Vidyadhara?
After accidentally picking the wrong character race in a game, the player has been playing for a while and is now asking this question.
The player is rather disappointed. This fully open-world game doesn't seem all that open after all. They can't even become the leader of a clan! How infuriating!
Crouched in a little corner of the Ancient Sea of Bows, the player hugs the Vidyadhara information they've just obtained and sighs in disappointment.
But just then, the player's keen eyes catch sight of an unusually beautiful character model!
Those gorgeous horns, that cool, composed face, that tall, straight figure...
The player seems to fall in love at first sight with this unfamiliar NPC...
Wait, two horns? Could this be the Vidyadhara Dragon Lord the player has always wanted to replace?!
The player puts on a grave expression. The Vidyadhara clan's decision to let only the Dragon Lord, who bears the appearance of a dragon, wield authority is a very wise one. The player thinks this is truly important!
What? The player says they want to become the Dragon Lord? Oh, come on, what a joke. A position as exalted and important as Dragon Lord should of course be held by that venerable lord with an immortal's bearing!
By the way, isn't the selection of the Dragon Lord's guards about to begin? It's decided: the player's top priority is to secure the closest position to the Dragon Lord!
Recently, Dan Feng, the Vidyadhara Dragon Lord known as Imbibitor Lunae, has gained a capable Dragon Guard at his side.
Whether it's Vidyadhara affairs, everyday errands, guarding the Dragon Lord, or any number of other responsibilities, this Dragon Guard handles everything with perfect efficiency, and often does an even better job than expected.
Of course, this "better than expected" is only according to Imbibitor Lunae himself.
"Lord Imbibitor Lunae! I've already mapped out your escape route for the next Vidyadhara meeting!" The player skillfully hands Dan Feng the itinerary they've prepared, then looks up at him with shining eyes. They might as well have "Praise me, praise me, hurry up and praise me!" written all over their face.
How can they possibly look anything like the steady, capable person everyone else talks about?
Dan Feng can't help smiling. His usually cool, composed face softens. "Mm, as expected of A Qing..."
Hearing this, the player's eyes shine even brighter, and their nonexistent tail seems ready to wag furiously.
Whatever the Dragon Lord wants to do, the player will lend their full support!
Even if...
Even if it means resurrecting the dear friend who died on the battlefield!
The player puts on a serious expression and watches the flickering "egg" carefully, devoting their full attention to the changes in its stats. Finally, when one of the stats reaches its peak, the player's expression changes.
"Crack." The unborn abomination is cut down at its source by the player's sword.
Failure.
But it doesn't matter. The player can try again.
...Finally, after an unknown number of experiments, the player succeeds in cultivating an egg, a Vidyadhara egg.
"Vidyadhara Qingfeng, guilty of ten grave offenses: stealing classified documents, coveting immortality... You are hereby confined to the Shackling Prison, pending further judgment..."
Looking at the Dragon Lord, whose eyes are full of sorrow, the player tilts their head in confusion, but still smiles at him.
"Don't be sad. I'll help you achieve everything you want!"
Reader's Notes:
1. This is a practice piece, written solely for Dan Feng.
2. The Xianzhou setting is famously messy. I'll write however I like, and you can read however you like. Lore scholars, please go easy on me.
3. The line between Dan Feng and Dan Heng will be blurred. There may be all kinds of melodramatic plots, such as jealousy between past and present selves over loving the same person. Recommended for readers who are comfortable with both the 'two people' and 'one person' interpretations!!!!!!!!
4. Lots of original plot. There probably won't be many scenes involving the game's story.
5. I haven't thought of anything else yet...
