During the fierce battle to surround and capture the demon in the cultivation world, Lou Mulang went on a killing spree.

Unfortunately, her heroic exploits would never be remembered for generations.

Because she was the demon they were trying to capture.

She beat the powerful cultivators back again and again, and escape seemed within reach.

But a cold wind rushed up behind her, and a sneak attack pierced her through the back.

Lou Mulang only had time to look back before everything went black and she died.

Perhaps the Heavenly Dao was stirred by her resentment at failing at the last moment, because she was reborn without missing a beat.

How seamlessly?

She didn't even manage to stop herself from turning around to beat up the one who had ambushed her.

But reborn Lou Mulang was too weak, and a lethal move had degenerated into a slap.

With a crisp smack, someone took the slap full force.

Once she saw the unlucky victim's face, Lou Mulang cracked her knuckles.

Well, wasn't this the bastard who had ambushed her?

Only now, his face was still young and tender.

Fu Xi thought Lou Mulang, the infamous fellow disciple from the outer sect, was very strange.

He had only wanted to be a bottom-of-the-class slacker in the outer sect, then leave the sect and head down the mountain when he came of age, returning to the mortal world to live out his days in peace.

His life should have had nothing to do with someone as exceptionally gifted as her.

But by a twist of fate, they became cultivation partners, and he started receiving regular death threats from her.

The reason for the threats was baffling: she was trying to force him to work hard, improve, and become stronger.

Fu Xi: "?"

After nearly losing his life once, Fu Xi had no choice but to get up and start cultivating.

Fu Xi was sure he had never offended Lou Mulang, but she treated him outrageously casually.

She would come close of her own accord, then distance herself just as abruptly. It seemed to depend entirely on her mood.

But Fu Xi didn't mind.

After all, if he could keep looking at her like this, that would be nice too.

Until that night.

That night, the sect was sealed off, and every cultivator in it was sent out to search for the demon seed.

Fu Xi found Lou Mulang standing before the body of their fellow disciple and friend, her hands covered in blood.

As he stopped behind her, the cultivators pursuing them sent out a summons.

Just then, she grabbed his wrist and activated the demonic energy she had left inside him.

Then she shoved him toward the cultivator.

"I've caught the demon seed that killed someone."

As Fu Xi was taken away, he didn't resist or struggle.

From beginning to end, he only looked at her.

He wondered why she hadn't waited just a little longer.

If only she had waited a little longer, he would have stepped forward and taken her place himself.

Then he wouldn't have had to learn that she had always seen him as nothing more than a scapegoat she had made with her own hands.

Reading guide:

1. The heroine is the focus. Romance and plot are roughly 6:4. One-on-one, happy ending.

2. Lots of original worldbuilding. Not a typical cultivation power-up story, more of a rebirth-and-investigation story (?).

3. A story about a man with a secret crush, written for my own enjoyment. The male lead is an accessory. The heroine takes him along wherever she goes, and later she'll even split him into pieces and take those along.

4. Be warned: dramatic flashbacks, amnesia, and other melodrama. Here's to building a couple who choose each other in every lifetime.
