First Secretary-General (Qing Dynasty Transmigration)

[Main story complete. The bonus chapters are a bit stuck, but I'll update them as soon as they're done.]

Gu Yunying had been a workaholic since childhood, and started her career at the age of twenty-three.

In her first year, she worked her way up from assistant at a private company to the boss's secretary.

By her third year, she'd worked her way up to secretary to the president of a joint venture.

In her seventh year, just as she was about to become an executive assistant at a state-owned enterprise, her body gave out from working too hard, and she died.

When she woke up again, she had become Niohuru Yunying, the fourteen-year-old illegitimate daughter of a Duke's mansion and the younger sister of Empress Xiaozhaoren.

She had crossed over in the seventeenth year of the Kangxi reign. She was about to enter the palace to attend to her sister, who was on the verge of death, and wait for her turn to take over as a high-ranking consort.

Gu Yunying, who knew her history pretty well, clearly remembered the life of this Noble Consort Wenxi. Her two children were one good-for-nothing and one who died young, and she herself was gone before she turned thirty.

Gu Yunying was a little unwilling to accept that. Surely each life couldn't be shorter than the last?

So after entering the palace, she stared at Liang Jiugong and thought for a long time. Then she turned around and drank the infertility medicine that would make her sister miscarry and die, planning to pick a new career path and keep working herself to the bone.

From assistant to the empress to secretary to the Grand Empress Dowager, Gu Yunying eventually managed to replace Liang Jiugong. She became a favorite whom all the officials of the Qing court had to curry favor with, working her way up to become the Qing Dynasty's first chief secretary.

This time, she was even more successful than in her previous life. Kangxi, who had personally declared that he would never confer the title of empress again, made an exception and married her in a grand ceremony.

Kangxi was just a little frustrated. He'd never imagined that, as emperor, he'd have to book an appointment in advance just to spend the wedding night.

Reader's notes:

1. The female lead loves herself most, her career second, money third, and the children her sister left behind fourth. As for Kangxi... anyway, she's got him completely hooked. Once he falls for her, he only dotes on her (in the middle and later parts of the story).

2. She won't have children. Her feelings for Kangxi go no further than friendship plus a little something more.
