Synopsis
Mutual Secret Crush | Reunited After a Breakup | The Ex-Wife-Chasing Inferno | Healing | Happy Ending
[Heroine with Schizoaffective Disorder vs. Cold, Stubborn, Soft-Hearted Wife-Doting Hero]
1.
Xie Qi had a secret.
Five years ago, she hid her first romance from everyone.
It was with a penniless boy.
Their relationship blew through like a gust of wind. After just one month, she resolutely broke up with him, claiming she couldn't stand how poor he was. She blocked him everywhere and vanished without a trace.
When they met again, she had just come out of a psychiatric outpatient clinic. From a distance, she saw a tall figure standing with his back to the window, silhouetted against the light.
The boy she had once known had shed his youthful innocence. The man was cool and refined, broad-shouldered and long-waisted. A cigarette rested between his slender fingers, its smoke blurring his sharply defined features and giving him an overwhelming presence.
She instinctively hid her diagnosis behind her back and tried to walk past him as if she didn't know him. Just as they were about to pass, he suddenly clamped a hand around her wrist.
His eyes were dark and unreadable as they fixed on the diagnosis. His voice was cool. "You're sick?"
"That's none of your business." Xie Qi gave him a distant, insincere smile. "Don't forget, we broke up five years ago."
2.
Only later did Xie Qi learn that the penniless boy she'd dumped was Song Lvnian, the long-lost only heir to the powerful Song family conglomerate. He had returned to the family and reclaimed his place a few years ago. They were worlds apart now.
The first stirrings of romance had long since faded into nothing, worn away by her illness and the passage of time.
She deliberately avoided him and drew a clear line between them, shutting herself inside the narrow confines of her own world and letting hallucinations and emotions tug at her soul.
But Song Lvnian forcibly tore away every disguise she wore, time and again pulling her back from her illusions into reality. One night, he handed her a check that stood out in the dim light. His tone gave nothing away.
"Didn't you love money? Didn't you dump me because I was poor?"
"Marry me, and the money is yours."
3.
News of their marriage caused a major stir in the capital's social circles. No one could have imagined that Song Lvnian would marry an ordinary woman.
A friend questioned him incredulously. "Are you serious? You were just supposed to have some fun. How did you end up getting serious? Have you really fallen for her?"
Song Lvnian leaned against his chair, a mocking curve to his lips. "Fallen for her?"
"From the day she dumped me, I made sure I would never fall for her a second time."
No one knew that in the quiet darkness of the night, Song Lvnian would always pull her into his arms, holding her tight as if with iron shackles and kissing her again and again. Just as on the day they broke up five years ago, his voice could not hide its pleading, nor the trace of stubbornness in it.
"Qiqi, tell me you love me. Tell me I'm the only one you love, okay?"
"Just say it, and I'll give you everything."
The first half of Xie Qi's life was spent in a world woven from hallucinations and delusions. Her emotions were constantly disrupted by her struggles with relationships, leaving her unable to die and unable to love wholeheartedly.
She never imagined someone could see through her, tolerate her temper, understand her, and recognize all the hurt she had endured.
He was the only variable in the fate laid out for her.
A note before reading:
1. The heroine has schizoaffective disorder. She is rational and clear-headed, and both leads have no prior sexual experience.
2. The hero has only ever loved the heroine. He is devoted to her in body and soul, and loves her deeply.
3. Neither lead is perfect, especially the heroine. Her characterization reflects the ways schizoaffective disorder affects thought and perception.
4. The phrase "unable to die and unable to love wholeheartedly" in the blurb comes from the song "Never Meeting Again."
Theme: Study hard and keep improving.
