The Start of Winter

Dong Xi returns to the damp little town in early winter. Steam swirls around the spicy hot pot stall beneath the streetlights, where young people huddle and stamp their feet as they wait. The owner, working alone in weather like this, wears nothing but a black tank top, showing off an unreasonable amount of muscle.

Dong Xi sits on a little stool, looking at the owner's muscles, then at the sign propped up beside him: Enter Winter.

It's just a shabby little street stall, yet it has such a literary name. Breathing in the cold air, Dong Xi thinks it really suits the season.
