Female protagonist's perspective:
Xia Zhi admits she did say she didn't want to live anymore, but she didn't actually want to die!
Being a wage slave is hard enough, and then she got hit by a car on her way home from work. Does anyone know if that counts as a workplace injury?
Still, it was nice. Everything was finally over, and she could get some proper sleep.
Ha, she knew there was no such thing as a good deal in this world! Can someone tell her where she is? And where did this lousy System come from? Why can't she get a break even after dying?
System: Dear Ms. Xia Zhi, we have a one-click resurrection package available! Click here to claim it.
System: ...Please click.
System: All right, you've claimed the resurrection package. Complete all the missions to obtain a real body in this world.
Xia Zhi: Is there a complaints department? Can somebody do something about this? I think I've been bound by unfair terms.
Since she's here, she definitely won't make the best of it. She can't fight back, but that doesn't mean she can't slack off. Don't worry, she's absolutely not going to complete the missions.
This Host was such a headache for the System. Neither threats nor inducements worked, and with no other options, the System threw her into a ruined temple and forcibly started the mission.
The System, which dropped her off and ran: I've delivered her. Whether you can get her to change your fate is up to you.
The dilapidated temple held only an old beggar and a little beggar. They had a decent sense of boundaries, paying no attention to Xia Zhi, who had suddenly appeared in a corner. They left each other alone.
Xia Zhi: Nice, friendly to people with social anxiety.
Though she'd been thrown into an unfamiliar place, Xia Zhi wasn't worried at all. She decided to stick to the original plan and starve herself to death.
So she closed her eyes and waited. She didn't know how long she waited. Her consciousness grew hazy, and she felt her soul was about to leave her body. It seemed she was almost there.
Suddenly, warm liquid was poured into her mouth. Her body swallowed instinctively, and her barely conscious mind snapped back to attention.
Before her stood a dirty little beggar with tears in his eyes. It seemed she'd scared him to tears.
Well, finding a dead person in front of you would be terrifying. How inconsiderate of her. So she got up... No, she didn't. She crawled straight out.
In the end, Xia Zhi didn't leave the ruined temple. And in the end, she accepted the mission.
Male protagonist's perspective:
Old Su said that if I grew up well, I'd surely amount to something.
What does it mean to amount to something?
He said it meant you could eat your fill every day, have clothes to wear, and marry a wife of your own.
What's a wife?
Old Su knocked me on the head. A wife is the girl you like most.
Then I don't have to grow up. I already have a wife. I like Zhi Zhi the most.
Old Su really wasn't reliable. He said he'd live to be a hundred, but he died after only a few years. And as I grew up, I got enough to eat and clothes to keep me warm, but Zhi Zhi disappeared instead.
All right, the older, the wiser. Old Su was right. Zhi Zhi came back, even if she was pretending not to know me. Maybe it's because I'm not grown-up enough yet?
Theme: Love given in exchange for love, and a new life reborn.
