Rational investor gong x sentimental pastry chef shou
Lately, lots of people online have been telling stories about past relationships in a Manbo voice. On a whim, I followed the trend and shared a few trivial things from when I used to share a rental with my ex.
How we'd fight over a bowl of instant noodles, warm each other with our body heat on winter nights, and awkwardly celebrate every modest but heartfelt anniversary...
I never expected the audio to go viral. Countless people followed along, saying they had seen love in its most original form.
Now I have a small business of my own and a comfortable life. I heard he's doing very well too. We're like two parallel lines, each living our own lives. I had long since forgotten what he looked like.
Until the wind chime at the door suddenly rang.
On the security camera, the person I thought I'd never meet alone again was standing outside my shop.
I opened the door for him.
He came inside, carrying the faint chill of the air outside. He hadn't changed much, though his presence had grown much calmer.
I looked at him without speaking, not knowing what to say.
He didn't speak either. He simply looked over my cozy little dessert shop, his expression so complicated that I couldn't understand it.
Then again, I'd never understood him.
"I heard the story you told." He finally spoke, his voice a little lower than I remembered.
My heart skipped a beat. I thought he'd come to confront me.
Then he continued, "But you got one thing wrong."
I froze.
"That little cake I bought you for your birthday that year," he said, looking at me with an expression so calm it gave nothing away. "It wasn't strawberry. It was chocolate, because I knew you'd developed a strange obsession with that slightly bitter flavor."
As he spoke, the sealed box of memories burst open with a snap. The light, smell, and warmth of that cramped rental apartment came rushing back all at once.
He took a step forward, close enough for me to clearly see my reflection in his eyes.
"So," he paused, his tone carrying a gentle insistence I couldn't refuse, "you can't be the only one telling this story."
"Then... what do we do?"
He curled his lips slightly, wearing a long-missed smile with a hint of that familiar, uniquely mischievous charm.
"Of course I'll take part. Starting by correcting this little detail about your taste, we'll keep writing our story... together."
This time, we reunited not to reminisce about the past, but to give each other a new beginning.
