Xu Shufan made two decisions that outsiders would find hard to understand.
She took in the daughter of a deceased friend and quit the best top-tier Grade III Class A hospital.
Life continued as usual, and Xu Shufan transitioned smoothly into her new job.
The private hospital she moved to was grand and luxurious, with air conditioning in the meeting room running as if electricity were free.
Xu Shufan answered every question carefully, but the man across from her tapped the table with his fountain pen and asked in a suggestive tone, “Unmarried, with a child?”
Jiang Yicheng's probing gaze seemed ready to see right through Xu Shufan, leaving her puzzled.
“May I ask what that has to do with my job?”
They were strangers, with no history or grudges between them. Xu Shufan simply assumed this major hospital shareholder was picking a fight because he was bored.
Until she accidentally heard Jiang Yicheng's assessment of her.
It was just one word: fake.
-
Jiang Yicheng had never cared much about marriage or starting a family.
His mother, desperate for grandchildren, pulled out all the stops just to get her son to add a blind date on WeChat.
She said her surname was Xu, had graduated from a prestigious university, and was a dentist. After a brief interaction, Jiang Yicheng quickly reached his conclusion.
Beautiful on the outside, but empty-headed: a bona fide “pretty ornament.”
But Jiang Yicheng never expected that the “pretty ornament” he looked down on would become the hospital's star dentist, while acting as if she had never met him, a stark contrast to her enthusiastic manner on WeChat.
Most outrageous of all, she even had a child.
“Mr. Jiang, we haven't met before, have we?”
“Are you sure?”
“Do you have something against me?”
Not only did he have something against her, he had also become interested in her.
-
One late night, Xu Shufan slapped the man without hesitation just before his shadow fell over her.
“Fake.”
“Mm. I am.”
* The blind date was a misunderstanding; falling in love is the real thing
* Truly rational x Pretending to be proper
* Dentist x Hospital tycoon
