1979 Cecilia Carpe x Severus Snape
For everyone, war was a nightmare from which they could never wake.
Long ago, Cecilia had given up hope of ever waking from her nightmares.
Her legend appeared in the Daily Prophet.
The young, noble duchess's heir had abandoned every last shred of dignity to stand beside the greatest Dark Lord in history. Her noble birth gave her tremendous influence in European politics, and a large wedding photograph of her and Regulus appeared on the Daily Prophet's most prominent front page.
The woman was noble and cold, with only the ring on her left hand flashing brilliantly. But beneath the long table, where no one could see, her pale fingers often trembled. Her mother had leapt to her death at her wedding, a blood-red curse had crept across her bridal gown, and Death had taken her last shred of soul in exchange for an angel's.
"I don't want to leave anymore. I just want it to end. I've had enough nightmares. Can you smell the Dark Magic on me? It makes me sick. I don't want to keep casting the Killing Curse to end their suffering. The people I've killed keep me awake night after night. If the war ends, my name will surely be on the list of Class A war criminals."
"No, it won't. I'll testify for you."
"You can barely save yourself. The devil can't testify for another devil."
"But the devil believes in you."

The main storyline follows the heroine, with appearances from some of the other supporting characters.
None of the main cast are innocent, in body or in deed. This is a dark, adult fairy tale with some bloody scenes. Recommended for readers 18 and over.
