1.
The day Yu Li first met He Jiuming was her wedding day.
A castle in the hills of Florence was shrouded in a light drizzle. Yu Li stood beside her husband in a pure white wedding dress.
By chance, her gaze met a pair of dark, sharp phoenix eyes.
At the time, He Jiuming leaned against a high railing, looking down at everyone. His face was hidden in shadow.
Yet there was an inscrutable smile in his eyes.
One glance was enough to send an inexplicable chill down her spine.
He was her husband's eldest son, the most favored young man in Harbor City.
Elegant and refined, he knew how to wield power.
Her husband led her by the hand to He Jiuming and introduced him. "This is Xiao He, my son."
The man gave her a brief, indifferent glance.
A college student in her early twenties stood beside a wealthy businessman more than two decades her senior.
Even in a custom-made wedding dress trailing along the floor, she could not hide her small-town air.
The man smiled mildly. "Hello, Ms. Yu."
2.
Yu Li knew he looked down on her, so she was careful to keep her distance.
That is, until the stormy, rainy night her husband died.
In the brightly lit study of the mansion halfway up the mountain, with nowhere left to turn, she was forcibly pressed against the desk by the man.
His tall figure loomed over her. She trembled, lowering her eyes in humiliation.
His expression was as gentle and refined as ever. He brushed a fingertip over her lips, but his voice carried a note of pressure.
"Why not give me a try?"
Thunder rumbled in her ears. Yu Li's face turned deathly pale, and she refused with a trembling voice. "Are you crazy?"
Her pallid face and tear-filled eyes only fed the cruelty in the man's heart.
He forcefully covered her lips with his.
"Do you think you have a choice?"
3.
He Jiuming was sick.
He was a madman.
When she was with him, Yu Li was constantly trying to escape his control.
She tried to get away at his birthday banquet, but on the day she planned to leave, he forcibly stopped her from going.
That night, the man left every guest in the ballroom behind and trapped her on the bed in a room on the top floor of the hotel, leaning over her and roughly kneading her lips.
With tears in her eyes, she struggled and pleaded. "We really can't do this."
He forcefully kissed her without giving her a chance to speak.
"If you can't do it with me, who do you want to do it with?"
"My father?"
[Note: The two had no relationship before the male lead's father died. The male and female leads only got together after his father's death.]
