[In one sentence: The Daoist partner I accidentally killed came back as a male ghost.]
Memory loss is the most common side effect of surviving a tribulation.
After successfully overcoming hers, Immortal Venerable Xuan Ling also lost her memories and a fragment of her soul. But her cultivation had already reached the peak of the Deity Transformation Realm, so a minor flaw wasn't a big deal.
One day, a man of unnerving beauty appeared in her immortal palace.
Xuan Ling decided he was a demonic cultivator who bewitched people's minds. Later, when she discovered that he had harmed her disciple, she struck him with her sword without hesitation.
She didn't know the man was gravely ill. He died soon afterward.
Only then did she remember that he was Bai Lu, her most beloved Daoist partner. The missing fragment of her soul, which carried her memories, had also been by his side all along.
Cultivators often say, "Sacrifice your Daoist partner to the heavens, and your powers will know no bounds."
But Xuan Ling couldn't shut off her heart and pursue the Great Dao. Her inner demon grew stronger and stronger.
She did many things she couldn't control, like searching souls everywhere, questioning anyone she could find, and even digging up his grave.
Until one day, the beautiful male ghost appeared in her dream.
With tears of blood streaming down his face, he said, "I will never forgive you."
Xuan Ling hoped he would keep his word.
Bai Lu's Daoist partner was frail, and the two loved each other deeply.
To stay by her side until the end, he was willing to use forbidden magic, sacrificing his own vitality to prolong her life.
He exhausted himself, but the morning after one night together, his partner had vanished without a trace.
Bai Lu dragged his sickly body from place to place, searching for her.
At last, atop a towering immortal palace, he saw Shen Ling, her expression cold as ice.
He only wanted to ask her what had happened. Instead, she ran him through the heart with her sword.
Even as he died, Bai Lu still clutched the flower note his Daoist partner Shen Ling had written him: "In life, we shall return to one another; in death, we shall yearn for each other forever."
Consumed by obsession, Bai Lu became a ghost. He thought he hated Shen Ling with all his heart.
He decided that even as a ghost, he would never leave her alone.

2. A tragic romance steeped in hatred, melodramatic and cathartic. The male lead lost his life, and the female lead lost her love. Really, it's two lunatics who love each other to death, mm-hmm!
3. The male lead was a little seducer when alive and a real ghost after death. He suffers quite a bit.
[Scene]
Immortal Venerable Xuan Ling stood before the mirror.
In the reflection, the beautiful male ghost wrapped his arms around her waist, coiling around her neck like a lovely venomous snake. He kissed her cheek and stared straight into her eyes.
Xuan Ling's expression was indifferent... but once she turned around, she smiled.
