After finishing graduate school, the forest ranger returned to his hometown to protect the woods.
But his once-peaceful life in the mountains was suddenly disrupted by a delicate young man who claimed to be a little mountain god.
The fox-robed youth had a jade-like complexion.
Yet that darling, youthful face was "concerned" about his firewood.
"Didn't you prepare dry firewood in advance? Bad firewood can kill you when you burn it."
"People die so easily."
The boy was so beautiful it was almost absurd, and he had no shadow. He was a mountain spirit.
The forest ranger's heart pounded as he silently made his way back to the safety of the old house.
But that night, the boy came again.
The boy didn't seem to think that showing up out of the blue was rude at all.
Under the forest ranger's astonished gaze, he edged closer to the little stove.
His delicate nose twitched slightly, and his lovely eyes kept falling on the tender potato flesh the ranger had peeled in his palm.
"Human, you smell so good. Can you offer one to the little mountain god?"

Facing the boy's jade-white face, the forest ranger's heart pounded.
But, as if bewitched, he handed him one.

From then on, the forest ranger began making offerings to the "little mountain god."
Only, this little mountain god ate an awful lot. He ate half the lotus roots in a pond that covered an entire mu.
And he didn't even have a household registration!
The special department got wind of it and hurried over at once.
What they saw was the owner of the vast mountain frowning helplessly as he wiped the mud off the feet of the "undocumented" little mountain god.
"No late-night snacks tonight."
The boy had eaten his fill and stretched out a lazy yawn, then nudged the forest ranger's chest with his foot. "Fine, then. Can I sleep with you?"
The ranger's fingers paused around the boy's ankle.
Then the boy came right out and said,
"Human, your chest is warm. It's so comfortable to lean against."
"The little mountain god likes it a lot."
