Song Li is Song Yimeng from A Dream of Qingning. Driven by deep resentment, she comes to the real world and finds Chen Lin, the author, who has been churning out terrible books to make a living. Song Yimeng acts in short videos, opens luxury shops, and builds up her fortune. Then she pays Chen Lin to rewrite A Dream of Qingning. But perhaps the original is so melodramatic that it has attracted an enormous following and the world's consciousness has taken shape. Chen Lin's rewritten happy ending is too ordinary and would lower engagement, so the world's consciousness rejects it outright. The words Chen Lin writes one moment are gone the next. The major plot points cannot be changed, but the small details can, so they work to gradually push the story toward a new ending.
After a year of revisions, Song Li reads Chen Lin's completed version, A Dream in a Book. She discovers that Chu Guihong's ending cannot be changed: after losing his closest family and comrades earlier in the story, he is doomed to a tragic, corrupted fate.
Song Li refuses to accept this and tells Chen Lin to keep revising, promising to keep paying.
While walking down the street, Song Li runs into Chu Guihong, who has transmigrated into the real world after dying in A Dream in a Book.
After Song Li saves Chu Guihong, she tells him everything. Chu Guihong goes to Chen Lin and tries to write in blood, but still can't change the deaths of his aunt and the Qianyu Army.
Then, that night, Chu Guihong disappears. At that point, Chen Lin calls Song Li, and they realize that although she can't change the earlier story, she can write an epilogue!
