[My next novel, Painting Bones into Obsession, is open for collection. The blurb is at the very bottom, and the full manuscript is in progress~]
The Underworld’s demon-soul emissary Si Yan fell into the human world and became a black cat who could barely hold a human form.
Her soul fire surged within her. Ordinary ghost wardens fled at the sight of her, yet a veterinarian named Su Muye from an animal rescue center happened to take her home.
Once a fearsome god before whom all beasts bowed, she now spent her days being held and petted by a human. She was even forced to take the cuddly name “Susu.”
Dr. Su thought he had merely picked up a haughty stray cat. He had no idea that the cat who always dozed on the sofa slipped out at night to quietly deal with the evil beast spirits.
He also had no idea that his blood could not only suppress her soul fire when it threatened to run wild, but also instantly calm maddened beast spirits.
Using his spiritual power as a guide, she formed a blood pact with him and glimpsed the truth behind the beast-spirit rampage.
The person pulling the strings was gathering the world’s resentment, hoping to forge the legendary “Banner of Ten Thousand Beasts.” Her primordial soul fire was the key to making it.
[Reading Guide]
* One-on-one romance, happy ending, both leads are each other’s first.
* Contains a few fight scenes and mildly dark elements.
* The heroine is Leopard Tail, one of the Underworld’s Ten Great Marshals. She commands the souls of all beasts, and her true form is a pitch-black spirit leopard. She spends much of the early story in cat form.
* The Underworld’s Ten Great Marshals are divided into three groups by their duties and jurisdictions: demon-soul emissaries, soul-capturing emissaries, and ghost emissaries.
(The demon-soul emissaries include Leopard Tail, Bird Beak, Fish Gill, and Wasp. They respectively oversee the souls of beasts, birds, fish, and insects.)
[Painting Bones into Obsession] Faux step-siblings + both leads are virgins. A seemingly well-behaved but secretly obsessive younger sister x a cool, aloof genius painter older brother
When Jiang Se was five, both her parents died, and she was taken in by the Jiang family, becoming Jiang Baichong’s adoptive sister, with no blood relation between them.
At the easel, the young man’s pale fingers were stained with paint, and his eyes held a distant chill that kept others away.
She raised her tear-streaked little face and softly called him, “Brother.”
The boy’s hand paused on the brush. His ears visibly turned red, and he mumbled, “Mm.”
That one “Brother” earned her his singular affection.
As his sister, she crossed the line, silently fending off every woman who tried to get close to him.
Jiang Baichong was widely regarded in the art world as a genius painter. He hated all meaningless socializing, yet gave this girl who lived with his family all the patience and tenderness he had in him.
He took her dependence for the natural closeness between siblings, never realizing the possessiveness hidden in her eyes.
Until the forgotten sketchbook was opened on the studio table.
“Brother finally found out?” Jiang Se’s breath brushed his neck. Her fingertips skimmed the red mole on the waist in the drawing. The mask of obedience she had worn for years fell away, revealing an obsession he had never seen before.
[Bonus Scene] On a rainy night, Jiang Baichong jolted awake from a dream. A pale-purple ribbon had tightly bound his wrist to the bedpost.
“Brother, keep your voice down.” Her voice was soft and gentle, like the rain mist drifting in through the window, but every word she uttered carried a threat. “Are you trying to wake Mom and Dad by being so loud?”
She leaned close to his ear, feverish obsession churning in her eyes as she smiled, obedient and mad. “For the rest of your life, Brother, you can only be mine.”
