Xie Xingu and Li Buyi became sworn enemies on the day the healer in their Arena team quit the game.
It was the Qixi Festival.
She and the healer had done the Qixi quests together for three years. She never expected her to quit on that day.
She also never expected Li Buyi to say, "The healer's quit, so how about I do the Qixi quests with you? We've been playing Sword, Qi, and Healer together for almost seven years, after all."
Maybe it was the die-hard PvP player's attachment to their Sword, Qi, and Healer team. Xie Xingu agreed.
Until Li Buyi dropped a True Orange Heart at her feet after they finished the quest.
Their friends' chat immediately flooded with messages: "What did I just see?! Li Buyi set off an orange firework for Xie Xingu?!"
A Blade Sect player asked, "Huh? Are they together? I always thought Xie Xingu and the healer were a couple."
"Are they just doing the Qixi quest together, or are they... that kind of thing?"
The friends' chat instantly went quiet, and Xie Xingu fell silent too.
Because of her uniquely questionable fashion sense and terse typing style, and because she only ever used voice chat with a few close friends, Xie Xingu was sometimes mistaken for a guy by people who didn't know her well.
The Blade Sect player kept typing, baffled. "Why did everyone stop copying the message? I was just curious, nothing else. I mean, it's Sword Three, after all."
"Xie Xingu, Li Buyi, where are you? Are you really that kind of couple?"
Li Buyi was laughing nonstop in voice chat. Just as he was about to type, "Xie Xingu is a girl," Xie Xingu gave a cold laugh and, typing as fast as she drew her sword, beat him to the punch in the friends' chat: "That's right, we're father and son."
Li Buyi: ?
Li Buyi typed quickly: "Xie Xingu is a girl."
Li Buyi: "She's skilled and a great person. I've had a crush on her for eight years, and we've played Sword, Qi, and Healer together against the meta for almost seven."
Li Buyi: "Otherwise, who'd want to play such a purely nostalgic team comp every day? It's way too weak in the Arena."
Li Buyi: "As for what our relationship is..."
He stopped typing and asked, sounding casual in voice chat, "Xie Xingu, want to be my in-game partner?"
Xie Xingu was shocked and furious. "Sword, Qi, and Healer is the best team comp! My Sword Pure is so good I've carried you through the Arena for seven years, and you dare say Sword, Qi, and Healer is no good?!"
Li Buyi: ...
Li Buyi drew a deep breath and started hammering at the keyboard. "That's right! We're father and son!"

Sometimes Xie Xingu wondered: when people keep trying to carve their mark on a boat to find their sword, if they were stubborn enough, would they insist on taking the same boat every time?
But over the years, no matter how well a boat is maintained, none can stay just as it was back then.
But to Xie Xingu, Li Buyi was that boat, unchanged from the old days. The river flowed on, and he alone remained, anchored right where she had lost her sword.
A few notes:
1. This is written in the style of a Sword Three forum confession post. Don't worry if you don't play the game; you should still be able to follow along. I'll explain the game slang in the chapter comments where needed. ovo
2. The characters' names are based on sects, skills, and talents in the game.
3. Reviving the glory of Sword Three fanfiction is our duty!
