Living True: Leslie Cheung's Authentic Self and Artistic Craft

When we think of Leslie Cheung, we remember his brilliance onstage and his vivid performances on screen, but we rarely consider the sincerity and dedication behind his mastery. This is not just a look back at his artistic career. Through his meticulous approach to his work, from Cheng Dieyi's belief in Farewell My Concubine that “without madness, there is no life” to the exquisite aesthetic of the Passion Tour, this book seeks to uncover the essence of his true self: he never pandered to popularity or pretended to be someone he was not, always approaching art and life with sincerity. It also explores the details of his artistic discipline: he treated every role and every melody with reverence, honing his craft day after day until skill became artistry.

We don't have to become stars onstage to learn from his story. We can learn to devote ourselves to what we love, as he did, and never compromise who we are. His respect for his profession and his courage to remain true to himself can become practical nourishment for our growth, helping us find the path to living authentically.
