Lao Junyan, courtesy name Zhongzhi, was born in Xishan Village, Longshan, north of Mengguan, Bozhou in the Northern Song Dynasty. His place belonged to Xiangxian County in the Spring and Autumn Song Dynasty in ancient times, and returned to Peidi in the Han Dynasty. Junyan read poetry and books when he was young, and especially admired Mozi's purpose of "loving all" and "non-attacking". He often encouraged himself by saying that Mozi "went through fire and sword, and died without returning the heel."
