Before transmigrating into a book, Zhao Su was a straight-laced engineering nerd. So he had no clue what the mysterious information "nonhuman, two*, *h" that he glimpsed in passing meant. He only remembered two lines:
One: "As the unlucky cannon fodder who sets the story in motion, Zhao Su meets a tragic end, his soul and spirit completely destroyed."
Two: "Follow Wu Chan around, and you'll eat nine meals in three days."
Nine meals in three days? That's a pretty regular schedule.
Zhao Su, the cannon fodder: I should... at least stay alive, right?
Zhao Su looked doubtfully at the little bean who was crying in terror after being scared by a monster. He sighed, softened, and took the child's hand. "Your name is Wu Chan, right?"
"I'm your senior brother. From now on, you'll follow me."
The little bean sniffled and called him, "Senior Brother."
During the first three years of raising Wu Chan, Zhao Su was a nobody in the sect, with empty pockets and a difficult life. Others urged him to give up.
Zhao Su smiled without saying a word. Give up? If he didn't raise Wu Chan, what would happen when he, a cannon-fodder character, died?
In the fourth year of raising Wu Chan, Wu Chan's talent began to show, and Zhao Su's standing in the sect improved along with it. Others gave him knowing looks and urged him to take advantage of the opportunity to become cultivation partners with Wu Chan for his own benefit.
Zhao Su smiled without saying a word. Thanks, but they're just pure-hearted senior and junior brothers.
In the tenth year of raising Wu Chan, his half-demon identity was exposed. In a single day, he fell from grace and became the target of everyone's hatred. Even those in the sect who were enjoying the spectacle couldn't help urging Zhao Su to cut ties with Wu Chan.
Zhao Su looked at the junior brother he had raised with his own hands, smiled, and cursed out everyone in the sect before resolutely leaving with Wu Chan.
"Wu Chan, whether you're human or demon, your senior brother only wishes you safety, good health, and happiness."
Wu Chan gave a soft hum. To Zhao Su's shock, he then took him to the throne of the Demon King.
Everyone gaped in disbelief: They really shouldn't have tried to talk him out of it.
Zhao Su was dumbstruck: Following Wu Chan around really was the right choice.
Zhao Su lay flat amid the mountains of gold and silver in the Demon King's palace. Lost in the overwhelming riches, he never noticed the terrifyingly possessive way the snake's tail coiled around his ankle.
It wasn't until an accident let him see Wu Chan's nightmare that he finally understood what his dear junior brother thought about every day.
First, Zhao Su was a straight man, and he was deeply shocked.
Second, Zhao Su wanted to stay alive. If Wu Chan meant nine meals in three days, Zhao Su didn't think he'd survive.
Finally, Zhao Su faked his death and ran away.
Later, a snake's tail wound around Zhao Su's waist and dragged him onto the soft couch.
Zhao Su cried out anxiously, "Wu Chan! I'm your senior brother! I raised you like my son! What are you doing? What are you going to do?"
"Adoptive father, elder brother, childhood friend, lover... Call me whichever one you like, Senior Brother." Wu Chan's snake pupils narrowed to slits in his fury as he gazed at Zhao Su obsessively.
"I've always regarded you as my wife, anyway."
Later still, in his nth year after transmigrating, Zhao Su finally figured out on his own what "nonhuman, two*, *h" meant.
Wu Chan: How was that on your own?
Zhao Su: Hahaha, fuck.
Wu Chan: Hahaha, good.
Zhao Su: ?
