Yun Xiaoxiao and Jiang Yanchi were childhood sweethearts who grew up together. For years, this perfect couple had been the envy of countless people.
But not long after they got engaged, their families announced that the engagement was off.
Their breakup was ugly, making things awkward between the two families. Jiang Yanchi shut himself away, while Yun Xiaoxiao bought a plane ticket and went abroad.
-
Yun Xiaoxiao thought she would never have anything to do with Jiang Yanchi again, but after finishing three years of study and returning home, she unexpectedly became his colleague.
The moment she saw Jiang Yanchi in the lab, Yun Xiaoxiao genuinely considered dropping out.
Could anything in the world be this coincidental?
Jiang Yanchi, however, didn't seem awkward in the slightest. His eyes lit up as he looked at her.
Yun Xiaoxiao's heart skipped a beat. Before she could put on a look of disgust, the young man politely greeted her. "Hello, Professor. I'm Jiang Yanchi, the person in charge of the team. I look forward to learning from you."
Yun Xiaoxiao: "?"
Was Jiang Yanchi really this friendly toward an ex?
When something's off, there's usually a reason. Yun Xiaoxiao had no idea what Jiang Yanchi was up to, so she stayed on her guard. In the end, she learned that Jiang Yanchi had lost his memory in an accident the year she went abroad.
-
At a get-together with the team, Yun Xiaoxiao, who never drank, got drunk after just one glass.
Alcohol stripped away her reason, and she did something foolish.
She pinned Jiang Yanchi, who had kindly escorted her home, to the bed, then drunkenly demanded, "You promised you wouldn't leave me. Why did you abandon me?"
The next morning, Yun Xiaoxiao woke to find Jiang Yanchi still asleep beside her. She was terrified. If Jiang Yanchi ever got his memory back, then... would this be the last tender moment they shared in their lives?
Later, Jiang Yanchi confessed his feelings and asked her to take responsibility for him.
Yun Xiaoxiao looked at the young man, whose eyes were full of hope. His smile overlapped with a scene from a distant memory.
Yun Xiaoxiao clenched her hand and adopted a sarcastic tone. "Sorry, classmate, you're not my type."
"I've been chasing you for so long. Why still won't you get back together with me?" Jiang Yanchi's eyes remained full of amusement. He lowered his gaze to the rose in his hand. "Don't like it? If you didn't like me, how could you have been with me for so many years?"
-
A PhD who had returned from overseas joined the team, and the supervisor specifically told Jiang Yanchi to learn from her.
Jiang Yanchi planned to humor the supervisor, but the moment he saw Yun Xiaoxiao, he knew: the person he'd been waiting for had arrived.
Unfortunately, the returned PhD wasn't easy to approach and gave him no chance to strike up a conversation.
Then came the team get-together. Yun Xiaoxiao got utterly drunk after one glass, and at last he had a chance to prove himself.
But as soon as he got her into her room, Yun Xiaoxiao pinned him to the bed with shocking strength, leaving him no chance to resist.
Her alcohol-scented breath brushed his earlobe. Her eyes were red, and though she questioned him again and again, her voice was full of grievance as she asked why he'd abandoned her.
Jiang Yanchi was stunned for a long time, his heart aching. He hadn't expected the girl he liked to have an ex she couldn't forget.
Still, at least the person she wanted tonight was him.
Jiang Yanchi blinked. "The one who abandoned you wasn't me. I would never leave you."
Later, Jiang Yanchi realized two things. One was that the person he'd once insulted, envied, and resented was himself.
The other was that Yun Xiaoxiao still had feelings for him.
-
When they broke up, Jiang Yanchi tried to stop her. Yun Xiaoxiao asked him just one question: "If we were meeting for the first time today, would you still fall for me?"
Jiang Yanchi couldn't answer her then.
But an accident made him lose his memory.
Fortunately, losing his memory wasn't such a bad thing, because now he could answer that question.
The person he loved had always been the Yun Xiaoxiao right in front of him.
Reading tips:
1. The male lead's amnesia is real, and he will get his memories back later.
2. The heroine returns from overseas as a postdoctoral researcher, while the male lead is working on his PhD. "Professor" is a respectful form of address, not a teacher-student romance.
3. There was a reason the leads broke up early on; there was no misunderstanding.
4. A sweet romance with no angst, but the leads do grow along the way.
