Marry a Rich Man

After the freshman welcome party, the students in the teacher-training program at A City Normal University gathered for dinner. Once everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, someone asked on a whim, "Why did you all choose the publicly funded teacher-training program?"

Someone said it was because she really loved children. Another said her parents had chosen her major for her, and she was just following orders. Someone else laughed sheepishly. "Isn't it because we want a stable job after graduation, one that pays no matter what?"

Chen Lanyi, who had been sitting sideways in the shadows, was the last to speak. "Because my mom said a girl who becomes a teacher can marry a rich man someday."

Everyone fell silent. From then on, they dismissed her as a mercenary gold-digger.

When the new semester of senior year began, everyone was astonished to see Chen Lanyi, the gold-digger who was supposedly determined to marry a rich man, getting out of a shabby little car with paint peeling everywhere, a repeatedly washed canvas bag slung over her shoulder. Hadn't she been set on marrying rich? Why had she changed her mind and gone for a poor guy instead? Could it be true love?

Later, that poor guy with the peeling car turned out to be the second son of the Xinyang Group, one of A City's wealthiest families. He had a driver take him around in a different luxury car every day, showing them off wherever he went.

Chen Lanyi's shoulder bag also started rotating through one designer label after another. Only then did everyone admire her wholeheartedly. They said today's rich second-generation heirs were all so shrewd that a woman needed a few tricks up her sleeve to catch their eye. When it came to landing a rich husband, you were the best, Chen Lanyi!
