Don't complain about the title. I've run out of ideas... orz
[Human-shaped comfort dog, unlucky con artist x seemingly aloof, secretly gloomy ghost of a disabled CEO]
Blurb:
Luo Ziyi is a con artist. She has been posing as a therapist for three years, enjoying smooth sailing without ever being found out.
Until Tang Xu comes along.
Tang Xu is the most difficult patient she's ever encountered.
It takes her six months to help Tang Xu recover from depression, but over the next two years, she watches it relapse 76 times.
Every time Luo Ziyi thinks she has recovered, the moon-faced, clear-eyed woman will sit quietly by the window and ask, lost and lonely, "Dr. Luo, what do you think the meaning of life is?"
And all this strangeness seems to have begun that night.
To celebrate Tang Xu's first recovery, they open several bottles of wine. After the red wine goes down, Luo Ziyi can't remember what happened next. All she remembers is waking up naked in the morning on Tang Xu's three-meter-wide bed.
The night of passion seemed never to have happened. Tang Xu acted as usual the next day, and Luo Ziyi said nothing. Apart from the marks of kisses all over her body, there was no trace of it.
Luo Ziyi is mortified. Not only did she deceive Tang Xu by pretending to be a therapist, she also took advantage of her patient's trust and tricked her into sleeping together.
Though she remembers nothing, she's certain it must have been her fault.
After all, Tang Xu is disabled and can't even stand. How could she have been the one to make the first move?
After three days of soul-searching, she decides to put an end to these mistakes and stay far away from Tang Xu.
But on the fifth day after treatment ends, she gets a call from the Tang family butler saying that Tang Xu has relapsed. With no other choice, she goes back.
They end up in bed together.
A month after Tang Xu's second recovery, Luo Ziyi gets a call from one of her friends, who says that CEO Tang is drinking alone late at night and looks heartbroken.
So she goes back again.
They end up in bed together again.
This happens 76 times. Luo Ziyi keeps thinking she's just not good enough at her job, since she's a con artist with no medical license.
Until the 77th time, when Luo Ziyi suddenly realizes!
Wait!
Something's not right!
She looks at the despondent woman in front of her, whose cool yet intoxicating eyes gaze faintly out the window. "Dr. Luo, what do you think the meaning of being alive really is?"
Luo Ziyi: "..."
She hasn't even changed her lines!!!
But how strange... How did they end up in bed together again?
Their breath is hot and ragged. Luo Ziyi is pulled onto the woman's lap. It's the first time they've been in this position, but her body feels strangely familiar with it.
Like a bolt of lightning, the realization strikes her. Shivering all over, she remembers everything and finally understands who tricked whom that night.
Damn it.
The con artist got conned.
After that night, Luo Ziyi disappears without a trace.
She flees to a new city, starts a new life, and assumes another identity, continuing her con artist career, confident that not even the Tang family could find her.
But on the second day after she moves in, a new neighbor arrives next door.
The familiar sound of wheels comes from outside her door.
There are two soft knocks.
Lightning flashes and thunder rumbles outside. Luo Ziyi huddles in a corner, her body rigid.
In a low voice, she asks fearfully, "Who's there?"
No one answers from outside.
But her phone keeps flashing.
Texts from an unknown number keep popping up on her newly changed number.
Twenty-four texts, all saying the same thing:
"Baby, open the door."
