Transmigrate to the Ming Dynasty and Build Machines

The Ministry of Works is desperately short-staffed this year, so the Agricultural Bureau is holding a craftsman selection across all of Zhili.

The blast furnace roars with bright orange flames, pouring out red-hot molten steel. Once the molds cool partway, they reveal pieces of rough stock, black with a red glow.

All the pieces look much the same, except for the third, which has a faint blue-purple sheen and a freshly cooled surface marked with delicate "tree rings."

The young craftsmen all turn up their noses and keep their distance. Only Deng Sheng's eyes light up.

A fair hand, faintly callused, reaches out with a pair of tongs. He hurries forward and grabs the piece!

In the end, he successfully forges the finest work.

He passes the selection and joins the Ministry of Works as a junior craftsman.

Deng Sheng, a young metallurgical engineer from Province C in Huaguo, is born into the Jiajing era of the Ming dynasty. He becomes the second son of a woman from a distant branch of the Lu family, who had married out of the family. The Lu family are relatives of Lu Bing, the Loyal Earl.

His father is a master craftsman, disabled by a workplace injury and chronically ill. His mother is gentle and frail. The family goes to live with his maternal relatives.

Originally, Deng Sheng's best hope was to enter officialdom through his technical skills, become a mid-ranking official in the Ministry of Works, escape poverty, and make his fortune.

Unexpectedly, he ends up the most precious living treasure of the firearms battalion.

From the Agricultural Bureau to the Furnace Bureau, from the Ministry of Works to the Wang Gong Factory, then on to the Twenty-Six Guards and the Three Great Battalions of Yanjing.

Matchlock guns, grenade launchers, and divine might cannons.

He lights up the Ming dynasty's firearms technology tree.

From an insignificant nobody to the backbone of the Ming dynasty.

He becomes a legend.
