Ruan Xi is a little mountain sparrow born with immortal bones.

So he takes human form and offers the swordsman his prettiest stones and feathers, along with delicious berries, hoping the man will come home with him.
Shen Xu is the heir to the foremost sect, and is notorious throughout the immortal sects for being a handful.
If you want him to exorcise a demon, you must first bathe, change your clothes, and look presentable. Whenever he goes out on a mission, it has to be a grand affair. He speaks with a sharp, cutting tongue and shows no mercy.
You ask why nobody beats him up?
He'll kill you, brother. Guaranteed. No one can beat him! He's the ruthless sort who can slay a great demon alone in just three moves.
Then, during an exorcism mission, this ruthless man watched a beautiful little yao with an extraordinary air emerge from a desolate, uninhabited place.
His friend drew his sword. "A little yao is nothing to fear. Kill it."
Shen Xu, defiant as ever: "No. He's prettier than all of you, and he's easy on my eyes. I'm going to keep him."
Much later, when Ruan Xi beats all the immortal sects who come looking for trouble until they are wailing for their mothers, everyone learns that this little sparrow is the ancestor of the entire immortal world, missing for a thousand years!
The number one in the cultivation world is actually a little chubby bird!

One-on-one, happy ending. Shen Xu is the top, no switching and no pairing him with anyone else.
Ruan Xi can't speak at first, and communicates entirely through random gestures and chirping in bird form.
