Monsters and Empire is an RPG fantasy adventure game with a high degree of freedom and a wide variety of gameplay. Players can enjoy different kinds of content however they like.
On their first playthrough, the player chooses [Unrestricted Mode].
The game begins with an unpopular mixed-blood princess being kidnapped and taken to a remote village.
You attack the kind village doctor who has looked after you from behind, and obtain the item [Money Stained with a Benefactor's Blood].
You capture the handsome prince and humiliate the former object of everyone's admiration, unlocking the CG [White Swan in the Darkroom].
You marry the kingdom's regent, then massacre the royal family at the height of your passionate romance, earning the title [The Killer Princess].
You travel with the hero's party, whose warm embraces and sincere promises encourage the hero to grow step by step. After squeezing every last bit of value out of the party, you coldly abandon your former companions.
You earn the achievements [That's Downright Inhuman!] and [This Hero Is Having an Existential Crisis].
After a string of such actions, you reach the ending: The wicked and beautiful princess ultimately rules the empire, surrounded by mountains of wealth and handsome men, reveling night after night as everyone submits to the empress's tyranny.
Player: What a depraved, chaotic woman.
The player starts a second playthrough in [Classic Mode]. Suddenly, they close and open their eyes, and find themselves inside the game, transmigrated into the princess's body.
Thankfully, Classic Mode focuses on an uplifting, heroic adventure. None of the steamy scenes from Unrestricted Mode should happen.
The princess still travels with the hero's party, growing alongside them and serving as the team's emotional anchor. With the walkthrough knowledge from the first playthrough, fighting monsters, leveling up, and raising affection are all going smoothly. The game seems nearly complete.
But even after they break into the castle and defeat the evil dragon, no completion notice appears. The princess leans on her staff, panting and wondering if the game has bugged out, when suddenly her vision spins and she collapses.
Through her blurred vision, the hero slowly approaches, wearing an inscrutable, cryptic smile. There's none of his usual sunny cheerfulness left.
Princess: ?
The hero bends down, takes her face in his hands, and naturally calls her by the name he used for her in the previous playthrough.
"Your Majesty."
The princess later discovers that not only the hero, but also the village doctor, the prince, the regent, and the others all remember what happened in the previous playthrough.
Even the evil dragon has the same face as the hero. It wraps its arms around her from behind, its thick tail winding tightly around her.
It even asks why her stamina is so much worse than it was in the last playthrough, when she could go all night.
After suffering the bone-deep despair dealt to him by the woman he loved, Troen is accidentally sent back to the past, where he meets Princess Lia as a girl.
He knows she is the source of his pain. He knows that beneath her beautiful, gentle appearance lies a wicked soul willing to do anything to achieve its goals: complex, brooding, calculating, ambitious...
Yet despite it all, he discovers that he is still willing to worship her as a goddess, and that he never wants to lose her again.
Theme: Love is the surrender of free will.
