The General's Rhapsody

[A bittersweet chase-after-your-wife story at first, then sweet romance]

[Both leads are sexually inexperienced, happy ending]

[A resilient, gentle market-town girl and a dashing female general]

Tan Niang is a frail orphan with no one to rely on in these turbulent times.

Then, while visiting her mother's grave, she finds Ling Yao.

Ling Yao is the daughter of a bodyguard agency in Jiangnan. She has practiced martial arts since childhood and is exceptionally skilled, with a bold and dashing bearing.

Her father offended powerful nobles, and the whole family was executed. She was the only survivor, fleeing from place to place until she ended up here. She had planned to end her life with a sword and join her family on the road to the Yellow Springs, but she couldn't accept that ending.

The day Tan Niang found Ling Yao, she was covered in blood.

It was the first time Tan Niang had ever seen such a capable woman.

How beautiful she was.

Her skin was fair, her voice lovely, and she was tall and graceful.

A single glance was enough to make Tan Niang blush.

The two fell in love over time, and were blissfully happy after marrying.

But Ling Yao had yet to avenge her family, and had no choice but to enlist on the frontier. Before leaving home, she told Tan Niang, "Wait for me to come back."

Three years passed, but there was no word.

Everyone said Ling Yao was dead, reduced to a mound of earth. Others said she had risen to prominence and no longer cared for a poor wife like Tan Niang, so she would never return.

Tan Niang waited day and night, and at last news of Ling Yao arrived.

The village teacher told her, "Tan Niang, your wife isn't dead. She's alive and well, and has won countless battle honors. She's about to become a great general."

Ling Yao was indeed an extraordinary woman. Her red-tasseled spear cut through the sky, and she was undefeated. The invading Xiongnu were repeatedly driven back, and they called her the War God of the Great Yun.

After returning to the capital, she was ennobled and appointed chancellor, rising to the very top.

When Tan Niang learned that Ling Yao was safe and would soon return to the capital, she breathed a huge sigh of relief. But before she could celebrate, she heard the rest.

"...But your wife doesn't want you anymore."

Ling Yao had cast aside her poor wife and married a princess.
