On an utterly ordinary day, all the volleyball-related things in the world were invaded by monsters.
Only a handful of people claimed to have seen numerous translucent monsters on volleyball courts.
The experts said: Volleyball must be cursed!
Li Yao, who was working his way through school, wasn't interested. He only cared about attending a lecture and getting free farm eggs.
As it turned out, he went to the wrong floor, stumbled into a recruitment session for the Department of Volleyball Paranormal Research, and successfully joined as a field agent.
The recruiter was still trying to persuade him, patiently and earnestly.
“Join us and save volleyball across the world!”
“Not interested.”
“You'll get to meet famous volleyball players!”
“I don't know any.”
“We'll arrange a lovely place to stay, with meals included. And free eggs!”
“...Deal.”
You can't blame him for lacking resolve. The offer was just too good.
On the first day he moved into his free apartment, he ran into the neighbor across the hall.
The neighbor wore a mask and looked gloomy and intimidating. Li Yao immediately slammed the door shut.
This was bad! His neighbor looked like a delinquent!
From then on, his life became a cycle of school, part-time work, and going to investigate paranormal incidents whenever the Paranormal Volleyball Department couldn't handle them.
One:
The short middle blocker, barely five foot three, from Karasuno High's volleyball team complained that he used to be able to jump three meters, but now, even with all his strength, he could barely get off the ground.
Li Yao looked at the heavy-looking lump on his back, a monster that was snacking on chips and might have been a pig or a bird.
Hmm... You can still get off the ground with an overeating “pig” on your back. You have my sympathy, Hinata.
The upperclassmen nearby: “Please save him!”
Two:
A member of Fukurodani High's volleyball team said, “Our ace and setter have been missing for a week!”
Li Yao pointed at the black-haired guy with the nest-like hair, spreading his arms on the court and shouting, “Hey, hey, hey!” He looked puzzled.
“Isn't that your ace?”
Konoha anxiously grabbed him by the collar, stammering in panic. “That's the scariest part! That's our setter's body, but Bokuto's soul is inside it!”
“Our setter's soul and our ace's body are missing!”
Li Yao tried to comfort them: “At least your ace is still here, right?”
Everyone shouted, “It's only Bokuto here! That's what's so terrifying!”
Three:
After getting the message, Li Yao hurried to the volleyball team at Inarizaki High.
Apparently, they'd been cursed by some unknown creature. Every time they entered the gym, they grew fluffy fox ears and tails.
Li Yao: You can do that?
The moment he found the monster responsible for the curse, Li Yao fell to his knees in reverence.
“Please, Great Fox King, grant me fluffy ears and a tail too.”
The Inarizaki team: Is he even here to help us?!
When he ran into his neighbor again, the guy was wearing a mask, petting a cat, and... wiping his hands.
A cool guy with a deadpan face, petting a cat.
Li Yao: Gap moe!
Only later did he discover that his neighbor played volleyball too, and wasn't a delinquent at all.
P.S.:
Any out-of-character moments are my responsibility.
There aren't many volleyball match scenes. A lighthearted slice-of-life story.
