Your Highness, I Volunteer

Wen Ci, the current prime minister, is a figure like an immortal, yet the true culprit behind the fall of Great Chu.

Because he is a remnant of the previous dynasty, born when the former emperor took a minister's wife by force.

Chu Jue was a recent college graduate. Unable to find a job he liked, he stayed up all night ghostwriting academic papers and accidentally worked himself to death.

When he opened his eyes again, he had become a blind cannon-fodder prince in a novel.

Chu Jue had planned to muddle through, but the prince was only pretending to be blind, and Wen Ci nearly saw through him.

The dreaded prime minister stood before him, the sharp blade in his hand only a hair's breadth from Chu Jue's throat.

"I see Your Highness is exceptionally clever. Why not take me as your teacher?"

"Y-yes, of course."

And so, to save his own life, Chu Jue went from a supposedly blind and useless prince to a leading contender in the succession struggle.

At first, Wen Ci had only wanted to support a puppet prince, then destroy him with his own hands and make the emperor taste the pain of seeing his hopes shattered.

He chose Chu Jue, who was pretending to be blind, because a pawn that knows how to hide lasts longer in the game.

He taught him political schemes, pushed him onto the throne, and waited to see him become as vile as his foolish father. Then he would take everything away, making his revenge complete.

But Chu Jue never fell into depravity. All Wen Ci got was an edict of abdication.

On the day of his enthronement, in front of all the civil and military officials, Chu Jue's eyes shone as he gently placed the bloodstained imperial seal in Wen Ci's hands.

"This realm," he said with a smile, "is more rightfully yours, Teacher."

After that, Chu Jue tried to run, planning to escape somewhere nice.

But Wen Ci personally stopped him on the road and offered him a cup of wedding wine.

When Chu Jue opened his eyes again

Red silk, brocade, and festivities everywhere.

"Your Highness made me a man with nothing left, and now you want to abandon me?"

Wen Ci trapped him on the dragon throne. "It doesn't matter. After all, Your Highness and I have bowed to Heaven and Earth. In this life and every life to come, we will be bound together, never to part."
