A little tabby named Jian Dan lost her home when humans encroached on her hometown, leaving her with nowhere to go. The Fairy Association sent her to a fairy daycare to be looked after.

The little stray's first day at daycare
The curious little ones crowd around to see the country cat.
The cat, thinking they want to fight (fierce): Hah!
The city dog, in the middle of a phase where it can't stand disorder, instinctively herds everyone back to their seats.
The cat, still trying to look fierce (confused): Huh?
The city dog hears a noise and realizes it missed one. It quickly picks the cat up and puts her in the right seat.
Jian Dan (fur standing on end): It's trying to provoke me!!

The little stray's eleventh day at daycare
The rural cat's forty-fourth battle against the city dog
At the slide race, the dog is big and fluffy and slow, while the cat is small and sleek and fast.
The cat wins. The cat is the king of kindergarten!
The number-blind cat carefully records it in her diary, counting in earnest: this is her fifty-sixth victory.
The next day, she counts again, and it somehow becomes her fifty-eighth victory.
Jian Dan proudly adds another fake win to the tally.

The Border Collie Su Wang was clever and quick-witted, and didn't like silly little things (in its eyes, every dog was automatically a silly little thing). Its family sent it to daycare to learn some manners.

The city dog's first day meeting the rural cat
Su Wang (front legs lowered) (tail wagging): This cat looks smart. Let's be friends!
Then Jian Dan hisses right in its face.
Su Wang (undeterred) (sniffing): It smells like nature. How charming!
Jian Dan slaps it right on the nose.
Su Wang (cheerful): It likes me! It wants to play with me!

To make sure fairies can fit into human society,
little fairies who take human form must complete nine years of compulsory education to learn basic literacy.
Jian Dan works hard at cultivation so she can compete with Su Wang to see who can take human form first.
In the end, they both succeed and become fairies in the same school year.
And so begins their sixteen-year schoolmate career.
Jian Dan (howling at the sky like a cat): Humans are bad for cats!!

At first, the cat can still hold her own against the dog in elementary school subjects.
By middle school, she starts to fall behind, and by high school she's completely defeated.
Su Wang: I can teach you.
Jian Dan: You're always trying to provoke me!
