* CP: An aloof, taciturn, obsessive bottom x a fastidious, outwardly gentle but secretly dark top
Su Yin never imagined he'd fall in love with his own protagonist. If he had, he never would have given the protagonist such a terrible ending.
But by the time he learned that this world was a book he'd written, the world was already on the verge of destruction.
And his protagonist disintegrated before his very eyes, leaving behind only a drop of blood that fell at the corner of his eye.
Su Yin wiped away the blood indifferently and thought beneath the falling snow: If I'm the one who created all of this, then I can make him die, and I can make him live.
So he spent a hundred years trying every method in the world, even resorting to forbidden magic, to bring his protagonist back to life.
-
In his previous life, Weisheng Ling was a gentleman whom everyone praised and respected, the "heaven's chosen son who descended to save the world," as mortals called him.
He had a loving family, a smooth path to immortality, a group of like-minded friends, and an adorable little disciple.
The little disciple was a bit quiet and had a tragic past, but that was all right. If he wanted anything, Weisheng Ling could give it to him.
For a long time, Weisheng Ling's heart and eyes held only his little disciple.
When he noticed his disciple staring wistfully at the candied hawthorn in someone else's hand, he bought out an entire stall's worth for him that very day.
When his disciple was injured after being hunted by enemies outside, Weisheng Ling put on black clothes and slaughtered their entire clan the next night.
One day, a friend dragged his disciple to a brothel. Weisheng Ling secretly followed them, claiming he was just keeping an eye on his disciple to make sure he didn't get hurt. But when he saw other people tugging at his disciple, he couldn't hold back. He appeared on the spot and forcibly took him away.
Afterward, his friend said, "Your disciple isn't that fragile. Don't act like his father just because you're his master."
Weisheng Ling was shocked. "Do I look that old? Besides, what if some bad person tricks him into leaving?"
His disciple Su Yin, a two-hundred-year-old demon feared by mortals for his notorious reputation: ...
Later, Su Yin told Weisheng Ling very seriously, "Master, I'm all better now. You don't need to keep treating me like a patient."
Weisheng Ling said all right, but nothing changed in his actions. Secretly, he was overjoyed by his disciple's concern, shamelessly telling himself that his disciple might like him a little, too.
He planned to confess after everything was over. He would give his disciple everything.
Until the heavenly fire came.
Only as he lay dying did Weisheng Ling learn that he'd been imagining it all. His feelings had never been returned.
This world was a book. The disciple he'd thought as frail as a willow was the creator of this world, while Weisheng Ling was merely a character in his story, a protagonist the author had sent to die for the Dao without a shred of mercy.
After being reborn, Weisheng Ling looked at Su Yin, who had done everything in his power to bring him back, and felt a little despair.
He was certain Su Yin really did love "Weisheng Ling," but he couldn't tell whether Su Yin loved the foolish "Weisheng Ling" who'd been a puppet controlled by his author and sent to his death, or the "Weisheng Ling" who had changed completely after being brought back to life.
Nor could he tell whether this love meant wanting to be together forever, or was merely the Creator God's pity for one of his creations.
Finally, one day, when Su Yin once again treated Weisheng Ling like the master who used to spoil him without conditions, Weisheng Ling completely broke down.
"Su Yin, who is it that you love?" He gripped Su Yin by the collar, pressed the knife in his hand hard against his own heart, and said each word distinctly: "If you think I'm no longer the person you love, you can kill me. Don't pretend with me like this."
