Low-energy, naturally spacey, unflappable girl vs. refined, aloof man who blows hot and cold
-
Wen Yuerong has coveted Zhao Chong for years, but never expected to have anything to do with him. The boldest thing she ever did was secretly leave something in his desk.
He never sees her, and she isn't the type to chase after anyone.
Then a contract makes her his new wife.
On their wedding night, Wen Yuerong is considerate of his feelings and suggests they sleep in separate rooms and stay out of each other's lives.
Before she can leave the room, Zhao Chong grabs her wrist and blocks her path with his tall, imposing body.
"I have needs."
-
After they marry, Wen Yuerong works at Zhao Chong's company. Plenty of people know Zhao Chong is married, but they don't know she's his wife.
A colleague asks her, "Could Mr. Zhao's wife be that woman who came by last time?"
Wen Yuerong doesn't want to draw attention to herself, so she just says, "I don't know."
At work, Zhao Chong treats her no differently from anyone else. If they meet in the elevator, she greets him as her boss, and he responds coolly. But once they get home in the evening, he's someone else entirely.
Gradually, Wen Yuerong begins to resist his seemingly inexhaustible stamina and excessive demands. She grows to hate the way he acts like two different people by day and by night. She thought that being close to him would give her an advantage and that time would bring love, but she realizes that once they're out of bed, the desire in Zhao Chong's eyes turns cold.
He'll do anything, except love her.
-
For certain reasons, Zhao Chong needs an obedient, sensible wife who won't make a fuss. When the Wen family falls on hard times and faces a crisis, they come to him for help. Only then does he remember that the Wens have a daughter who was his classmate in high school and whose character fits what he needs. So he makes a deal with her.
Wen Yuerong is exactly as he expected: she doesn't take up his time, interfere with his freedom, and they are compatible in certain ways.
Until one day, he realizes that his sensible wife hasn't been to the office in a long time. Then he finds out that she quit without telling him.
Some time later, he discovers that she's looking up information about divorce. For once, Zhao Chong feels a strange sense of agitation. He gives her everything, so what right does she have to leave?
-
When the contract expires, Wen Yuerong asks for a divorce. Zhao Chong signs the papers without a flicker of emotion.
She breathes a sigh of relief and graciously wishes him all the best, while he treats her like a stranger and doesn't say a word.
They meet again at a ball she's attending by invitation. Beneath the dreamy lights, she finishes a dance with a friend, looks up, and sees Zhao Chong standing opposite her, his expression dark.
Wen Yuerong doesn't know whether she should greet her ex-husband in a place like this.
That very night, though, as her friend drives her away, someone deliberately rear-ends them without causing any damage. The other driver is none other than Zhao Chong.
He gets out, knocks on the door, and ignores the person beside her.
"Wife, come home with me."
From then on, Wen Yuerong increasingly thinks he's a madman.
As for Zhao Chong, he just wants his wife back by his side, where she can act spoiled and make all kinds of unreasonable demands. He wants to sleep with her, and he wants his wife to be demanding with him.
