Xia Yubing is an octopus who has cultivated herself for a thousand years.

She's an elegant, gentle soul who has never eaten a person. She lives by absorbing excess emotions and has never broken her vow in all her thousand years.

That is, until two years ago, when she was badly injured and weakened, able to maintain only the form of a palm-sized little octopus. A human found her and took her home.

Xia Yubing's pupils contract. No human has ever been able to see through her.

Eight tentacles clamor inside her.

In over a thousand years, she's never eaten a human. Li Xiaochuan will be honored to be the first.

But Li Xiaochuan doesn't know.

She doesn't know that her new colleague is the little octopus. She doesn't know if her nightly dreams of entangling herself with eight tentacles are real or not. She doesn't know that the sighing tree beside the station and the fortune-telling owl on the roof aren't figments of her imagination.

Teacher Xia seems to be hungry all the time, so she should feed her.

"Here, have some takoyaki. I made them myself."

Later, Li Xiaochuan finally realizes that the two people she'd been dating were actually one and the same.

Overjoyed, she cries and uses Xia Yubing's tentacle to wipe her tears. "Thank goodness I didn't cheat on you."

Xia Yubing looks at her, slowly loosening the tentacle around Li Xiaochuan's waist.

Fine.

If she can't bring herself to eat her, she'll keep her instead.
