Main Story Blurb:

The apocalypse arrives, and Zong Nanzheng awakens a sanctimonious buzzkill of a do-gooder System.

As the base's famously hard-as-iron Alpha captain, she stares at the notification in her mind: [Host, maintain your saintly persona and accumulate merit points to exchange for supplies.] The vein at her temple throbs.

To make matters worse, the stupid System has a punishment mechanism. If she deviates from its rules even slightly, electric shocks tear through her relentlessly.

And so, one day, Captain Zong, who used to crush the skulls of mutants with her bare hands, finds herself crouching in the ruins, handing the biscuits she just found to a sniveling little kid.

Her teammates are dumbfounded. "C-Captain? What are you..."

Zong Nanzheng keeps a blank face, while frantically checking the System panel in her mind: [Saved one child, merit +10. Exchange for 10 steamed buns.]

Later, she discovers that this merit System is practically a blessing in the apocalypse. Saving a passerby can get her 10 bags of cement, helping an old person build a shelter can win her chocolate, and enough merit can even be exchanged for superpowers!

Zong Nanzheng's eyes light up. She rolls up her sleeves and gets to work on infrastructure: repairing the walls, building granaries, planting vegetables, constructing houses... The once cold-faced grim reaper becomes the base's living bodhisattva, racking up merit faster than mutants can evolve.

Until, on one of her missions to clear out mutants, she finds a snow-white fox in the ruins.

The fox is covered in wounds. When it takes human form, it turns out to be an Omega with reddened eyes and fluffy fox ears standing upright.

A teammate raises a knife. "Captain, beast-form Omegas are extremely aggressive. Let's kill it!"

But Zong Nanzheng holds down the tip of the knife and lets out an awkward cough. "Ahem. All lives are equal. I'll take... I'll take it back and raise it."

Only later does she realize that if you raise a fox, it'll cling to you.

[Fox Omega's POV]

Everyone at the base says Zong Nanzheng is an icy block that can't be warmed, cold-blooded and heartless.

But they don't know that this Alpha will gently rub my ears with her warm palm in the middle of the night, wiping the dust off my tail for me.

When the calluses on her fingertips brush my ear, I can't help wanting to wrap my tail around her.

[Little Scene 1]

Zong Nanzheng returns from a mission, covered in dust and smelling of gunpowder.

As soon as she opens the door, a fluffy bundle leaps into her arms.

The fox Omega, who usually bristles at everything, has red-rimmed eyes and buries his face in the crook of her neck. His voice is choked with tears. "They said... they said you're going to be with another Omega..."

He clutches her clothes, his peach-blossom eyes wet, like a little beast that's been bullied. "You can't... I was the one who fell for you first."

After blurting out his confession, he nervously sweeps his big, fluffy tail over her wrist, as if flirting or testing the waters.

Zong Nanzheng chuckles softly, reaches up to rub the top of his head, and says dotingly, "Silly. I've let you hold me for this long. Isn't that obvious enough?"
