**Chapter 1 Entering the Doomsday Game** The cold metal walls reflected pale light, and the air was filled with disinfectant and an indescribable, rusty smell of tension. There was silence in the huge underground hall. Hundreds of young people wearing uniform gray combat uniforms stood tall like sculptures, their eyes focused on the iron tower-like figure on the high platform in front of them. That was instructor Raymond. Every scar on his face seemed to be carved with a knife, and his eyes were so sharp that they could penetrate the soul. He didn't need a loudspeaker. His deep and hoarse voice had a power that penetrated people's hearts. It rumbled and echoed in the silent hall, and every word struck everyone's heart. "Listen clearly, rookies!" Raymond's voice rolled over like thunder, "What you are about to step into is not a virtual playground, not a paradise where you can upgrade your points! It is the 'Ark' system, our last and only line of defense! It is purgatory!" He paused, and his cold gaze swept across the young, tense faces below, with either confusion, fear, or forced composure. "In there, the only thing you need to remember, from beginning to end, is one thing." He suddenly raised his voice, and every syllable was like tempered steel: **"Live!"** There was a brief pause, and the dead silence was filled with invisible pressure. **"Live!"** There was another pause, and the air seemed to freeze. **"Still fucking alive!!"** The last three words were like thunder, making people's eardrums buzz. Even the sound of breathing was faint in the hall, and only the sound of the heart beating crazily in the chest could be heard clearly. Raymond put his hands on the edge of the podium and leaned forward, as if he wanted to force this cruel truth into everyone's bones: "This is not an exercise, not a game! Every time you log in, it is real life and death! Every failure, every hesitation, every stupidity, the price may be your own life, or even..." His eyes became heavier, "... It is the hope that the 'rock' base city under our feet can continue to exist!" "The Rock" is one of the last large shelters built by humans after the apocalypse. Its existence is the result of the sacrifices of countless people. The instructor's words tied an individual's life and death to the fate of the entire group. They were so heavy that they made people breathless. "So, please prick up your ears and engrave the following words in your mind! This is about your life and death, and it is also about the future of all of us!" Raymond's voice was decisive and unquestionable. The huge holographic screen behind him lit up instantly, and the scarlet fonts were like flowing blood: **[Enter the Ark Survival Rules (Elementary Level)]** **1. Confirm the [Doomsday Disaster Event]:** This is the first priority after you open your eyes! The system will not tell you in advance the type of apocalypse you are facing. Is it a zombie craze? Is it a radioactive wasteland? Is it an alien invasion? Or is it memetic contamination with weird rules? You must see it with your eyes, listen with your ears, and smell it with your nose at the first time! Determining the nature of a disaster is the basis for formulating all survival strategies! Wrong judgment means the countdown to death begins! **2. Establish [Initial Safety Point]:** Don't run around like a headless fly! Entry points usually have a brief (extremely brief!) Period of relative safety. Use these precious seconds to minutes to immediately observe the terrain and find a corner or bunker where you can temporarily hide, observe, and breathe. A broken cabinet, a collapsed wall, or even a deep enough pit may save your life! Remember, being safe is temporary, but it buys you critical thinking time! **3. Search for [Basic Survival Supplies]: ** Water! Food! Basic weapons or tools! These three things are the iron triangle that supports your survival. Be as sharp as a vulture! Dig through ruins, search for corpses (don't hesitate, this is the norm), and keep an eye out for supply points that may be refreshed by the system (usually with huge risks). A bottle of turbid water, an expired compressed biscuit, and a wooden stick with nails may all be priceless treasures in the early days! Priority: Water > Simple self-defense weapons > Food. **4. Assess [Environmental Threat Level]:** Always maintain the highest level of vigilance! Your senses are radar. Pay attention to any unusual sounds (screams, screams, unusual silence), unusual smells (blood, decay, ozone, chemicals), or unusual sights (distorted light, unnatural shadows, moving debris). Preliminarily determine the types, quantities, and activity patterns of major nearby threats. Wandering? Is it latent? Is it clustered? Only by understanding your enemy, even just superficially, can you decide whether to fight, hide, or escape! **5. Plan [Short-term Survival Route]:** Based on the type of disaster, location of safe points, material situation, and threat assessment, immediately outline a route in your mind. What is the goal? Heading to a relatively safer area? Are you looking for a more advanced supply point? Or complete the initial survival mission that the system may forcibly trigger? The route must be clear and feasible, and there must always be a Plan B! Remember, in the apocalypse, no direction is more deadly than encountering monsters! Raymond's eyes were like searchlights, scanning the bottom: "Remember everything? This is not a suggestion, but an order! It is a bloody lesson that was exchanged for countless lives! In the 'Ark', hesitation is suicide, innocence is the grave! You are the seeds screened by the 'Rock', don't let this city down, let alone your own life!" At this moment, the lights in the entire hall suddenly turned into a dazzling red, and the sharp buzzer alarm tore through the solemn air! **"Warning! The Ark connection channel is open! Countdown to 60 seconds!"** The cold mechanical female voice echoed, with an undoubted sense of finality. On both sides of the hall, rows of metal hatches glowing with blue light slid open silently, revealing coffin-like neural connection cabins inside. "The last 60 seconds!" Raymond's roar overwhelmed the alarm, and he pointed at the open hatches, as if pointing to the entrance to hell, "Remember my words! Live! At all costs, let me come out alive! For yourselves, and for the 'rock'! Now - get in position!" The crowd surged instantly, and the suppressed breathing turned into rapid breathing and running footsteps. Fear of the unknown and desire for survival are written on everyone's face. They rushed to their respective connection cabins, and the cold metal touch came through the thin combat uniforms. The young soldier Lin Mo took a deep breath, suppressed his racing heart, glanced at the instructor's mountain-heavy back, and then glanced at the scarlet survival rules on the holographic screen, especially the first one "Confirm [Doomsday Disaster Event]", and then resolutely lay down in the cold connection cabin. The hatch slowly closed above his head, and his vision was filled with blue light. **"Connection activated... Consciousness synchronization in progress..."** **"Welcome to the world of Ark. I wish you..."** The system's prompt tone sounded a cruel joke. Lin Mo's last thought was the instructor's thunderous roar: "Stay alive!" The next moment, a strong sense of dizziness hit him. His perception of the real world was instantly stripped away, and the boundless darkness and coldness swallowed him completely. When he regained consciousness again, he opened his eyes suddenly - the pungent, disgusting **rotten stench** was like a real fist, hitting him hard in the face! There was a continuous, scalp-numbing low roar in my ears, one after another, like a chorus from hell. As far as the eye can see, there are ruins of broken walls, the remains of overturned and burning vehicles, the dirty and black ground covered with suspicious mucus... And, under the dim skylight, those broken bodies dragging among the ruins, wandering aimlessly and exuding the aura of death - **living corpses**!
