Cat spirits, snake spirits, fox spirits, rabbit spirits. Modern, historical, or cultivation settings are all fine. If it's a fox spirit, I'd prefer a nine-tailed fox, pure white or bright red all over, with tails tipped in different colors. Ideally, it can freely switch between human and spirit forms without restrictions.
