Synopsis

A timid, slippery heroine x a bad-dog emperor | Get caught selling fake medicine and take three thousand strokes, or enter the palace in place of the prefect's daughter? Which would you choose?

(Remember to expand the introduction!)

Hongdou would, of course, choose to cling to life...

But nobody told her she'd have to attend the emperor at night once she entered the palace!

Why does the emperor wear a mask, anyway?

Because the emperor pretends to be a young eunuch in front of her~

"Little Duozi, are there any rules for attending the emperor at night?"

"Listen up. When His Majesty summons a young lady to attend him, she has to recite a passage from The Three Character Classic."

"H-how much do I have to recite?"

"Don't be dense! Obviously the last line!"

But when it's finally time to attend the emperor, the masked emperor tells her to recite The Thousand Character Classic...

She curses under her breath: Damn eunuch Little Duozi, you set me up!

"What has my Concubine Dou been doing today?"

"Your Majesty, Concubine Dou woke up a little after seven. She hadn't changed out of her nightclothes and stood on the steps to stretch. After washing up, she sat at the stone table outside to eat. Er... then a caterpillar fell from a tree, and Her Ladyship was terrified..."

"Stop. Are you saying she's afraid of caterpillars?"

Attending the emperor is one thing, but then... why does someone keep sending letters demanding money from her? Oh, turns out it's the prefect's real daughter...?

"Xie Hongdou, where's the ornament I gave you?"

"Xie Hongdou, spending my money to support a man outside the palace is punishable by death by slicing."

"Xie Hongdou, impersonating someone to enter the selection is punishable by beheading."

Content warnings: Weak heroine; neither lead is perfect; everyday romance; lots of romantic interaction; basically a brain-off read; just a fun story, please don't hate on it. Apologies for everything.
