I, Your Concubine

Tao Ling had been a slave, become a concubine, and even stolen a pipa. On the Winter Solstice, heavy snow blanketed the mountains, and she found herself at death's door. On the road back to the capital, the Fifth Prince, Xu Chen, met her beneath the crumbling Buddha statue in a ruined temple.

At first, he mistook her for a shameless, lowborn woman. But as they spent time together, he realized that she had never had a choice...

She didn't like wearing socks and preferred to walk barefoot on carpets. She was very particular about the things she used...

What Xu Chen found most baffling was that she insisted on finding her damned "brother" and asking him face-to-face whether he had been pretending to be sick when she was begging for food all those years ago.

Tao Ling was taciturn, and she and Xu Chen couldn't understand one another. It was as if one of them flew in the sky while the other swam in the water.

He often had to guess what she was trying to say.

Whenever he asked her something, she would often answer, "I don't know..."

"Come back north with me."

"Young Master, I think I might be carrying your child."
